I think federal law sets age minimum at 14, except certain jobs.

Yeah in PA anyone still in high school needs working papers. Chic fil A can be franchised, so the owners might not have known.

Its a bit confusing because you need a job to get working papers. Lol once you get the job and they give you a schedule you take it to the school office and they issue you working papers. There is strict rules for what a minor can work in PA.

Not your fault at all. You would expect a big place like Chic Fil A would tell you what you need to work there legally.

No, it's not illegal to *hire* a minor without working papers.

"...a minor can apply for and accept a job offer prior to obtaining a work permit. Once the work permit is issued, the minor may begin work. In all cases, when a minor is hired by an employer, it is the employer's responsibility to notify the issuing officer within five (5) days of such employment."

Well you/your parents-guardians are the ones responsible for applying for a work permit, it's issued by the school district. And your employer is responsible for telling the school district you've been hired.

Could also be feasible that they properly sent the notification to the school district and you didn't do your part and the school district didn't do theirs as well, although that's a question for a lawyer if it went there.

Yeah probably, I was in the midst of changing schools as I got this job as well so that may be why.

I never got working papers until I tried work Study one marking period In High School. I had been a dishwasher for 3 years before that.

OP is a minor. According to the PA child labor laws it is the duty of the employer to know and follow the child labor law requirements.

I mean they did follow all the other laws, but like I have a new job, so I was just wondering, but a lot of people took my curiosity in a different direction.
