My girlfriend and I are looking to move to an area that’s a little more quiet, less traffic, less crime and less expensive. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Lancaster area and have a good feel for it but I’ve never lived there so I need help narrowing down an area. She has a 7 year old daughter so we’d ideally like to live somewhere with a good school district. We’d like to live close enough to the city or an area with things to do but not be right in the middle of it. I’m an electrician and she works from home. Anything with close proximity to the outdoors would be preferable. I’d like to live north of Lancaster since it’s closer to family but I’m open to other suggestions.

Lititz, my dude. Or Manheim, though it’s a bit farther.

I’ve considered Lititz. What do you like about it?

I moved out of that area about 8 years ago, but it has a great small town feel. Lots to do, lots of small businesses.

It’s like what you see in the movies.

Warwick district, will get the variety of environments, relative nearness to “stuff” and great district. It’s north of 30. Plus, downtown Lititz is freaking adorable. (Disclosure:I live in Lititz, but don’t do downtown much because people, but the parks are lovely!)

I live in western Chester County and know Lanco pretty well. I also prefer north of US30.

Do you want rural/semi-rural/forested/farmland?

From the areas I know, New Holland might work. There are some nice areas up north of PA23 between Morgantown and New Holland. Another beautiful area is around Money Rocks State Park.

Warwick Township. Surrounds Lititz. School District includes a couple of townships to the north. West Hempfield might also fit the bill but it is to the west. Manheim Township will be more expensive housing. Manheim Boro will have more affordable housing but the schools are not as good. The Lampeters are nothing but traffic but the school district is decent. If the daughter likes athletics, all of these districts have robust girls sports teams.

PA really needs to simplify their municipal government system. It's so convoluted.

Chester County is very nice and has a lot to offer. Kennett Square is great, lots of Families and great schools.

Well Iived in fairmount/art museum for about a decade. I'd recommend manheim. It's a cute town, nice town square with tons of little shops. It's only about 20 or so minutes to lancaster and 10 minutes or so to 76 so easy highway access for travel.

They said they needed a good school district which Manheim is definitely not.

Manheim School District is one of the lowest ranked school districts in Lancaster County.

Nah, there's no diversity in Manheim. Redneck central. If you like lifted trucks and Confederate flags then that's the town for you.

Diversity is most certainly a statistic.

I've lived in Lancaster County my whole life, Manheim is the second worst place to live in the county behind Columbia. You can't find a lifetime worth of knowledge in the numbers and metrics. Manheim is a shithole of a town.

It’s a bullshit statistic and should not be included when grading schools. If a town demographic is 97% white how the hell is it the schools fault that there is no diversity.

Just keep in mind that Lancaster has the very worst pollution in the state (and that’s saying something) mostly because of its topology. It IS beautiful though.

I have been living in Lititz for 26 years (1 mile north of the town). Lititz is a very nice place to live. Quaint town. Lots of nice shops, restaurants, bars. Close to all the major highways, Lancaster airport. New neighborhood starting behind my neighborhood called, Santuary at Lititz Grove, 69 brand new homes, a bit pricey. Overall very nice place to live

Check out internet access early, before you decide on where to move to. Frontier is the suck but is sometimes all that’s available - the Amish don’t buy a lot of internet service and there’s not a lot of competition.

Not Lancaster City at least. Friends lived in Lancaster for years. Left because of the all the crime and drugs. Moved out to Reinholds.

Something the Republicans in this state never seem to bring up.

Less traffic? It’s completely nuts here!

Have you ever lived in Philadelphia? There’s over 6 million people in the Philly metro area. It takes me over an hour to get 20 miles. I do this twice a day

dmriggs t1_iy4dfxp wrote

Yes I have! I grew up around there and lived in the Northeast for about five years. I do know. I drove delivery there too. Just letting you know that they’ve built up shopping centers and more developments without adding roads.

Lititz is going to get votes because it is that good. If you need to commute to Philly regularly then Ephrata or Denver/Adamstown would work. They are smaller areas but very close to the turnpike.

The city itself does have Amtrak if that would be needed.

Another vote here for Le Tits. Both my mother and sister/bro-in-law/nephew live there(Mom closer to downtown, sister right in Rothsville). Love it there.
