For 99 years, neighboring schools Catasauqua HS and Northampton HS have taken the field at 10am to play the ultimate rivalry game. This game has been played in record warmth, record cold, rain, and snow…and was only “skipped” once - in 2020, due to COVID. Northampton won today, 42-12, to up their overall rivalry record to 62-33-4.

It's cool to see this tradition still going strong. I believe Stroudsburg and Eastburg stopped playing their rivalry game on Turkey Day some years ago...

Can confirm, the battle for the little brown jug died like, 6+ years ago now. At least the Easton v P-Burg game is still alive and well

I went to Stroudsburg, and I remember if the away team won the Turkey Day game they'd walk all the way back to their high school

Next year I hope they do something extraordinary for the centennial!

I’ve heard a couple rumors - bringing back many of the alumni for a pre-game honor walk, moving it to a neutral location (I’ve heard Muhlenberg, Moravian, J Birney), and a week-long celebration including a parade. I also heard they’ve reached out to ESPN to do some sort of coverage, similar to what they did for Easton-P’Burg a few years ago. Just hope it doesn’t end after #100

All of those sound awesome. Alumni game would be a lot of fun- two hand touch of course. Although it’s funny to imagine some geezer from the class of ‘38 is gonna get tackled by a try hard from the class of ‘06

An alumni game would be awesome, but no doubt there’d be some fists flying at some point

Isn’t Northampton the home of the KonKrete Kids? As in they chose and perpetuate that moniker?

PACubsFan23 OP t1_ixnfkda wrote

They are the Konkrete Kids, yes. The spelling of Konkrete comes from the German spelling, which was what most of the people who worked in the local cement plant were. It’s been spelling that way since pre-1940’s. It doesn’t have anything to do with the KKK, or any racism whatsoever

You’ve obviously never been to the Atlas Museum and learned from Mr. Pany!

Bucks county as well. I used to drive by a house that had the klan flag flying on my way to work.

Yeah…except that there’s ways to pay homage to the history without “accidentally” having racist connotations.

We had a Turkey Bowl every year where we'd get out of classes for the day. It was just within our own school though.
