do traditional browsers work the same? How about VPNs, Steam, and video players?

As I tell others, "Anything you can do in Microsoft Windows you can do better in Linux".

To answer your questions and get back on topic I'll keep it short here:

  1. Browsers do work the same
  2. VPN's work excellent. I use NordVPN
  3. Steam is native to Linux
  4. I use multiple video players, although I find that VLC works best for my needs
  5. I can multiple streams open at the same time without any problems. In Windows this isn't possible
  6. A very easy beginner distribution http://www.linuxmint.com Multiple others can be found at distrowatch.com
  7. Search Reddit or Facebook for Linux support groups

Give it a try before you download it. You can download a ISO image compatible with your system and place it on a USB stick to try it out without actually installing it
