Idk about anyone else, but I get so mad that every time I see a list or video about "The best such and such of each state...." the Pennsylvania option is always about Philly!! Like wtf, Pittsburgh has amazing food and places to visit too! Show us some love, I'm tired of the Philly Cheese Steak representing the whole damn state!! Just a random thought 🤔

I’m sure someone in Western Maryland is complaining about crab cakes.

All “Best of” lists are complete BS. Totally subjective. It’s lazy content because no list author is actually putting in the number of hours it would take to suss out the “best.” Also, many such lists are popularity contests. Just ignore them.

I try to lol but just once want to see a Pittsburgh establishment represented!

Honest: if that’s your biggest problem right now, you’ve got it made.

KJH106 OP t1_iwuxbsx wrote

It's not, are we only allowed to talk about our biggest problems now?

Let’s all have some boilo and not worry about what some person from NJ thinks about PA.

Dispatcher12 t1_iwszhje wrote

Holy shit, I made some last year. It was so good. Pretty sure I got the recipe here.

3

Allemaengel t1_iwudvd0 wrote

I haven't had boilo since last year. I'm way overdue, lol.

Well I'm in the middle, 5 hours from either of you and we've got... Damn good venison. I don't wanna hear about any sandwich you are too lazy to sit in a tree for and then drag out of the woods. Even if it's got fries on it. ;)

GraffitiTavern t1_iwth8yk wrote

Hey, who knows, maybe they shot those fries with a bow from 500 yards

2

Dispatcher12 t1_iwtigxv wrote

It's almost 1am but how good does a venison burger and some good steak fries sound right now? And a nice cold one? Damn.

2

GraffitiTavern t1_iwtj0d3 wrote

1am sounds like the perfect time to demolish a venison burger and fries, although i'd down it with a hot spiced apple cider(but maybe that's just because its snowing where I am)

1

Dispatcher12 t1_iwtm3lf wrote

Ooh, yeah. I'm settling for no food but a nice hot cup of orange spiced tea because I'm at work. Just a trace of the snow remains here. Not sure what's in store the next couple of days but it is my weekend off so they can have it.

I've actually made incredible steak & cheese sandwiches with thinly, bias-sliced venison steak sauteed with a little butter (or oil) and onions.

In defense of Philly(if not lazy online list writers), Philly is the biggest city in the state so its understandable people default there. PA is one of the most regionalized states in the country so we can keep all the cultural little nooks and crannies to ourselves. One thing I sorely missed when I lived out of state, PA has a lot of great regional culture(I didn't even know how much food I grew up with was specific to South Central PA until I left).

KJH106 OP t1_iwt62d2 wrote

It's so true, so many dialects and different foods. I guess that's why I get so frustrated the whole state gets lumped into one city lol

6

TheFuzzySkeptic t1_iwu1hfj wrote

Central PA here. With places like Altoona, Johnstown, and Williamsport, we only get on "worst" lists.

2

Allemaengel t1_iwue111 wrote

Hazleton, Reading, and Chester would like a word from here in the eastern part of the state.

I was listening to some show on MSNBC that was talking about the uptick in tourism. The person being interviewed mentioned Pittsburgh because of the cultural attractions. The Carnegie International is running, and they mentioned the new addition to the Science Museum and some other stuff. Also the food, and didn't talk about Primanti's or sports at all.

KJH106 OP t1_iwuxhuj wrote

That's so great! I love this city 😁

Now that the Flyers ditched Giroux, maybe have Sid "no longer" the Kid become the official face of PA hockey.

Carnegie Mellon is the best institution of higher ed in PA.

Don't @ me, PSU peeps.

To be fair most of Pennsylvania would be happy if Philly became its own state or got absorbed by New Jersey sooooo………

2

E-werd t1_iwxs4wj wrote

Living in the greater Pittsburgh area is accepting that you'll never be the first area that anybody thinks of when your state is mentioned. Honestly, we won't be happy unless PA is split into two states along the Susquehanna--only then would we be able to step out of Philadelphia's shadow.

What’s good in Pittsburgh, a fucking grinder? Nah

A grinder? It's a fucking hoagie not your dating app

lehigh_larry t1_iwszc5s wrote

Don’t yooz call hoagies grinders in P’burg? My brother lives in Trafford and that’s what he calls them.

KJH106 OP t1_iwszmwx wrote

Funny enough I grew up in Trafford/Level Green and no one I know says grinder or yooz, it's hoagie and yinz

lehigh_larry t1_iwt59l5 wrote

I didn’t say yooz because I thought you said it. Yooz is an NEPA thing. I’m well aware that yooz use yinz.

1

KJH106 OP t1_iwt6ean wrote

Aw gotcha, I thought grinders was like a New England thing. It's funny to compare how other people call things lol

2

IrrumaboMalum t1_iwtfsh1 wrote

Easy solution - let's donate Philly to New York. Then these list people would have to look at the rest of the state.

In fairness, the Primantis in Erie IS hot garbage. Nothing like the original. I was sorely disappointed.

We're the Steel City my man! Our sports teams are awesome (enough though the Steelers are going through a rough patch and everyone knows the Pirates suck but that's the charm, and they have a beautiful stadium) We have lots of movies filmed here cause the city is so beautiful! The inclines, the river tours, we have lots to offer thank you very much!

To be fair, people from Pittsburgh will argue that Sheetz is even in the same league as Wawa, so it's difficult to take anything Pitt people say seriously with asinine opinions such as that...

0

KJH106 OP t1_iwv1wbh wrote

That is not true, Sheetz has gone so far downhill I can't even eat there anymore! I miss going to Wawa. But Getgo is a Pittsburgh area gas/food station and it is very good too! I'd rather go there than Sheetz any day.

Also why is everyone so black and white about opinions?? Can't people like both? I didn't post this to shit all over Philly just to point out Pittsburgh is also a good option! People being very sensitive..

1

timewellwasted5 t1_iwv2qmv wrote

lol easy dude, just poking fun. Don't take life so seriously, you won't make it out alive.

I was never being sensitive.

KJH106 OP t1_iwvcwm7 wrote

I'm sorry, I must have misinterpreted when you said people who like Sheetz have an asinine opinion lol but yeah it's not that serious was the point I was trying to make. People can like what they like, doesn't bother me at all 🙂

timewellwasted5 t1_iwvdn49 wrote

All good. But I do agree, there is way more to PA than just Philly. Part of the reason everything seems so skewed is that many writers, bloggers, etc. are city dwellers. It's rare to have someone produce a 'Best of PA' list to be from Bradford or Tioga counties, you know?

1

KJH106 OP t1_iwvesoa wrote

It's so true! Rural PA is awesome too, people need to expand their minds
