Howdy,

Did you contact your insurance and supply them with the police reports? If you did, it should take days to a week to show up.

If you did not contact insurance and you only submitted a police report then whether it shows up on Carfax is a gamble. Not all police departments submit the recorded data to vehicle history vendors.

You could also call Carfax directly and/or submit a data research request on the website to try to kickstart the process

Creds - worked at a dealership in Reading for 10 years, many stolen cars and I've been the guy to report, update and fix Carfax/AutoCheck reports.

Hey!

Yes, I gave my insurance a police report.

I’m looking to trade in my car, do you think the stolen title will affect the value? The car was not in an accident, low miles, and a 2020.

Called a dealership in Newtown, they asked me if it was on the CarFax and I said probably not because it was just stolen/recovered, and he said it likely won’t affect the value since it was recovered quickly, mileage, year, etc.

What do you think?

The stolen record will affect the cars value if it shows on the Carfax, but it depends on the demand for your model to determine how much.

The car may be perfectly fine. However, the pool of customers for the vehicle has been reduced because of the record.

So since it's a riskier car to try to sell, you may be offered less.

I believe this is heavily dependent on whether or not an insurance claim was filed, and, to a lesser degree, if any damage was done to it while it was in the wind. Expect it to be within a couple weeks of claim resolution.

I did file and insurance claim and a police report. There was no damage other than my window and busting my ignition (I have a Kia).

I wonder why it’s so quick when an accident takes up to 90 days to show (based on what I saw online). I’m looking to trade in the car for a new one.

Do you think this’ll affect the trade in value significantly?

It's possible, but not likely. New car dealerships In particular basically give a lowball trade price based on book value and general condition. They may not even run a carfax, unless it's new enough and low mileage enough for them to put it on their lot. Of course, trading it in with a broken window and defeated ignition is different than a fully repaired vehicle.

Of course, its a 2020 Kia Sportage with 31k miles. No prior accidents or anything.

My insurance is going to fix everything with the car. When I get it back, it’ll be like new.

Just wasn’t sure if a tainted car fax would diminish value by much if at all. Especially with my car being in perfect condition

I don't believe you'll have a problem with reduced value, given lack of collision damage and good condition. Someone might try to "use" it during negotiations, but it's realistically not a big deal. Good luck!

It may have a theft/recovery title for the person you sell it to
