Hi! I got offered and accepted a new job expected to start the first week of march. Aaaand on this past Friday, my current employer let me go. ( they were letting people go left and right... but I still suspect they found out) So, i'll be going over a month without pay. I filed a UC claim, but am i exempt from doing the weekly claims since I technically HAVE a job, I just haven't started yet? I just completed unpaid training for it too. I tried calling and calling, line is ALWAYS busy. I went ahead and registered for PaCareerLink, but am unsure how this works since I have already accepted a job.

Edit: ** Am I exempt from the weekly job SEARCH since I am already hired elsewhere waiting for a start date.

File the claim ASAP. You lose a week as a "waiting week" either way, so start the clock. You'll likely collect for the 3 weeks remaining between your separation date and the new start date.

Remember this is YOUR money. You pay into the UC fund every pay period while you're unemployed. Take your money when it is owed to you.

Goodluck. This process wasn't designed to help poor people. Just a new way to make them suffer.

UC handbook states if you have a recall date in writing while in layoff you are exempt. While it doesn’t say it explicitly, I would assume a firm job offer in writing with a start date would fulfill the same function.

This is correct you may need a start date from the new employer. And beware of unpaid training.

Yes. Apologies if how I wrote seemed just like a ramble. So much has happened in the last week.. my brain is fried.

I am going through a lot of life changes at the moment. Please refrain from comments like this. I came for advice for UC.

I'm pretty sure you can still claim those weeks you missed where you normally would have worked, there is a "waiting week" of no pay included

Yes. I just filed 2 days ago. So this is technically my waiting week anyway
