Many of us are likely using PPL electric. The current PPL rates are 14.612/kWh, which many other vendors are in the 10s/kWh. This can save renters and home owners lots of dough! There are many vendors with long-term contracts and no-fee cancellation clauses.

I noticed they don’t have my daily usage from the pre Christmas cold snap when the grid was stressed.
Just logged into my account and saw that the usage was estimated. I know I didn't use 1700kWh. Did they send an email or something about a credit?
I'm not sure as it would be my dad's email, but I literally just Googled "why is ppl bill so high" a week or two ago and news articles came up about it so that's how I learned more about it. Then I looked at my dad's bill again and saw it had "estimated" on the usage and the bill amount.

Wow. That's some bs. January is usually one of my lowest consumption months and their estimation beats the highest I had in the summer.
I'm met-ed. Locked in the standard offer program in June. I pay like 7. Not looking forward to the end of my contract in a few months.
Yeah I'm still at 8 for PPL. Going to hurt almost doubling. Might switch to candles.

Make sure you look at the terms for the lower rates and if they expire. Hubby forgot to make an adjustment after a 12 month intro and we got hit with a 4 figure electric bill. We (painfully) paid it but we learned to keep a close eye on supplier intro offers after that.
Four figure? My God. So sorry.
Same thing happened to me, luckily it hit in a normally low month, but our bill tripled from ~200ish to over 600 because my "introductory rate" expired and I didn't realize it until I checked and my bill was insane already.
This is the primary reason I don't mess with it. I know myself, I know my mental health, and I know there is a fair chance that even if I took every precaution, I'd end up missing a date and having something like this.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

Thanks for making me check. While I knew I had a great rate locked for the next 3 years, I found an even better rate from the same provider. An easy $15 saving for next months bill (and future bills) and it took me all of 5 minutes. :)
Yep.. Energy Harbor no cancellation early termination... They just dropped to 0.1024 for 34 months... If it goes down I'll just call to reset the end date.. had signed up with them on Monday at 0.1128. And saved another half cent... Papowerswitch.com is your friend...
Thanks for the heads up just switch to them and am saving 4 cents a killawatt. That will save me like $70 per month!
Got locked in before the last insane hike. Will be putting in a wood stove this year hopefully.
We are as well. I was thinking a coal pellet stove but damn the prices for that have really shot up as well.

YUP. Do your research, check rates every so often and always look for a no-fee cancellation contract.
Might be a dumb question, but can renters actually switch providers, or are we locked into whatever the landlord has chosen?

Is there a site to compare rates for PA?
I was paying almost 18 cents/kWh for a company called Xoom Energy. It took me for quite a loop honestly. My bill has never been that high and holy shit it has hit the pocketbook along with the price of home heating oil at the same time.
Now I know that some of you are complaining about PP&L rates, but I honestly feel its probably the best thing I could do right now considering all the circumstances, Those that are doing the sub 10 cent plans prepare for a mind boggling experience as most of those plans I'm sure have it built in that it the rate will increase after 6 months or something like that and if you do a early termination its going to cost you some big money.
No matter what is playing out in the utility company arena we are the ones in the end going to get the sausage
I chose a new provider in November and it appears that the switch did not get updated with the old company and the new company so now instead of increasing to 0.11 KWH it is 0.16KWH. Why did I have to figure this out on a Saturday?

I got mine down to 6 and change, guaranteed for three years.
I’m on the $135/month unlimited plan from Santanna Energy. Same price per month up to 2000 kWh. With my use of 1771 kWh last month it came to 7.6 cents per kWh. With PPL’s delivery rate it comes to a total of 12.27 cents per kWh.
Tell me a vendor? I shop around and they can’t do much. Not like it use to be.
I refuse to keep changing vendors all the time. I jsut use the default PPL whatever.
It shouldn't've been deregulated.

Also a PSA for PPL users: apparently last month a "technical error" caused them to not be able to assess accurate usage for many people's bills, so they came up with a super aggressive "estimated use" that was almost certainly massively more than the actual use, and they billed accordingly. They say they're going to issue a credit this month to make up any difference, but I help my elderly father with his bills and was stunned to see an astronomical electric bill from PPL.
