No, you don't have to.

I had my old portrait orientation ID for far too long after I turned 21 because I ended up having to renew my license right before my 21st birthday.

Never had any significant issues with my portrait ID for 2 years after turning 21 in PA. However It did get looked over more closely since it was the old design, almost lost it once at a bar/restaurant in NJ at the shore, but that bouncer was being a dick lol.

Oh yeah, my ID usually got a longer look than most others. And more than a few jokes about still having the "baby ID"

You don’t have to, but just a general tip if you travel: some bars in other states won’t serve you with a vertical ID, even if it is valid. I went to college in DC and had this problem in Maryland a lot, so I ended up just going and getting a horizontal one for convenience.

I would just use my U.S. Passport Card in that case. Some places are just determined to give you a hard time.

Do you plan on going to bars? When I was at Penn State only certain bars would let you in at midnight and I think they would put a wristband on you so you couldn’t buy liquor.

No, my son got his just before his 21st because we moved from out of state and he has a class A license which is more expensive. DMV told him he could get a new one but didn’t need to and he’s had no trouble buying alcohol.

No you do not have to get a new license. In fact if you get a duplicate, you will likely have to carry around a second form of ID to get into bars and maybe buy alcohol in certain places.

It worked better for me because it was obvious I was over 21 thanks to the big red line with my 21st birthday. I think I had it until my 24th bday?

Hello. I'm RAMP certified in PA. Your ID is fine. As long as it's valid..
