I was going to say Warwick, but I don’t know that side of the bay that well. I’m gathering West Warwick is Warwick’s white-trash cousin?

FjordExplorher t1_ja3qm3v wrote

Sure is. That picture might say Oakland Beach to me as well.

venturecapely t1_ja3uyf2 wrote

These two are too gangsta for Oakland Beach. The Tupac beanie paired with the tank tops and jewelry scream WW.

Nah. Too classy for Woonsocket. Have you ever seen a yard that big in the city on the move?

34

Rickshmitt t1_ja3mv72 wrote

Could be the edge of a cemetery, a classic Woonsocket drinking spot

17

ThatRocketSurgeon t1_ja3n2wo wrote

You are correct. If I said I didn’t have a stash of Bud Ice and Mike’s Hard Lemonade on the edge Precious Blood when I was a teenager, I’d be lying.

9

SquishyWhenWet_1 t1_ja5tsrp wrote

Precious blood is actually a really nice cemetery too. I visited last week while I was back in my home city, good on Woonsuckit.

1

ThatRocketSurgeon t1_ja62bu3 wrote

It is. My mom lives right near there still. I do have a lot of love for that city. There really are some hidden gems. Did you see the post where someone was asking what to see when visiting Woonsocket? There were a lot of good suggestions. Precious Blood was one, Pearl’s candy and nuts was another.

No_Rule_9059 t1_ja3tnso wrote

Where is the city moving to?

2

ThatRocketSurgeon t1_ja3ttmr wrote

We always used to say on the move down the drain when I lived there but I’m sure there’s somewhere else it’s heading.

thepostaldud3 t1_ja3y9pn wrote

Slightly up 146 but retreating at the north smithfield border if the roads by the borders are a sign of anything.

3

steelyx88 t1_ja42pfu wrote

The first time I was in woonsocket, I saw a man butt naked, taking a shit in the road in front the dunkin, while 2 cops watched and waited for him to finish.

15

ThatRocketSurgeon t1_ja4305x wrote

I was so glad they didn’t rush me mid-poop. Ever tried to pinch one off while fighting two cops after smoking meth? It’s damn near impossible.

12

steelyx88 t1_ja482at wrote

Woonsocket is its own country. It defies the laws of nature. And the walmart on diamond Hill road, I saw a dude peeing down an isle.

The town makes no sense.

And I got my chest tattooed in a irish Puerto Ricans mother-in-laws bedroom. Nothing makes sense.

11

Rickshmitt t1_ja491pq wrote

Also, defiles the laws of nature

steelyx88 t1_ja49qxo wrote

Woonsocket is a worm hole. And those who escape are lucky.

6

ThatRocketSurgeon t1_ja4mvqm wrote

I’ve been gone since 2001, but it holds a special place in my heart. Nobody ever truly leaves, they just go away for a while. Then they miss things like swimming in Social Ocean, the fragrance on NETCO on a warm sunny day, getting serenaded by being yelled at by crackheads outside of Moonlight Weiners, the women fighting for equal pay on Arnold Street, the smell of secondhand smoke mixed in with your lo mein at Chan’s, the sound of piss sizzling in the sauna when that weirdo keeps sneaking back in to the health and racquet club men’s locker room, buying an autumnfest button in August and wearing it on your Tazmanian devil sweatshirt until June. You just can’t find these things anywhere else.

7

Rickshmitt t1_ja4o9fk wrote

They say you can never take the autumnfest button on your tazmanian devil sweatshirt in june out of the person whos escaped sizzling bum piss.

3

Vsercit-2020-awake t1_ja4qusj wrote

Wow this is so accurate that it’s scary. I think Social Ocean is now filled in. Not sure tho but I remember it and all the fascinating creatures it brought to that watering hole.

One thing to add - the ungodly wait in the DMV.

RICoder72 t1_ja3g27f wrote

Appreciate the nod, but this isn't our type of redneck. The gold chain and gangsta hat doesn't really fit here (except for one dude, and anyone from the ville would know who that is).

This is the big Woo or West Warwick.

fenix1230 t1_ja36u1v wrote

Wrights chicken farm, it’s got a capacity of around thirteen hundred people. They are also the first job for just about half the town. Seriously every kid in high school ether works there or knows a classmate that does.

Edit: they also have an attached gift shop that’s pretty nice. Despite the name they are not the same company as the dairy farm of the same name.

13

SufficientZucchini21 t1_ja3zxrq wrote

Ok thanks! I’ll check it out.

Some people are mentioning Oakland Beach. I moved to RI a few years ago, and I'm a bit surprised that it hasn't been bought up by property developers yet. I mean, we're talking about relatively cheap real estate, surrounded by marinas, on a little peninsula surrounded by the water, with a beach, 10 minutes from i95. The air traffic doesn't really go over it, and right next to it are the mansions of Warwick Neck. It's 15 minutes to downtown Providence, and an hour to Boston.
