I’ve been out of Adderall since October and it’s been severely impacting my day to day life. My doctor sent in a prescription for Ritalin last week to the Plainfield Pike Walmart, but they were out last time I checked. Does anyone know of any pharmacies that have Adderall or Ritalin?

Vyvanse is a great alternative. Check with your doctor.

I 100% agree with you. Completely changed my life. The only downside is that it is super expensive and you may need to fight your insurance company to cover it.

I think without insurance it is over $350 a month.

Think I read on another thread about this that you want to call first thing in the morning, it's like a first-come-first-fill type of thing. Maybe ask when they get their deliveries and set an alarm?

I'm acutely aware that different people respond differently to different drugs, and there's a comfort level in knowing how you will react, so if this comes across as disrespectful I apologize in advance BUT have you considered a different med? My family member has been on Focalin XR for years and the results have been great. Plus we haven't had any issues with supply.

I believe there is a generic available, although we use the name brand as it's very reasonable with our insurance and the manufacturer coupon.

Focalin is usually a little stronger, I would suggest trying lower doses of dexmethylphenidate. I used to take 20MG of Adderall, but when i switched i found that 5-10mg of focalin worked. Best of luck!

That’s surprising, does it last as long too?

I have not been on focalin in too long to remember much about it but it seemed about as strong as adderall (roughly speaking)

I cant do XR, the extended release stays in my system too long and keeps me from sleeping. So I take 5mg in AM and Afternoon during the week. Dexmethylphenidate (focalin) is closer to Ritalin then Adderall (chemical structure).

You went from 20mg adderall IR BID to 5mg focalin BID and it worked with the lower dose?

I have been on / off of stims most of my life (37). Yes, once i inevitably build up a tolerance I will eventually move to 10MG AM, 5MG afternoon. It usually takes 6 months to get there. I have never had to exceed 15MG daily on Focalin. On Adderall, I was taking 20MG AM, 10MG in afternoon.

Previously Ritalin - made me super jumpy in afternoon before my second dose.

Methylphenidate/Concerta - Made my hyper-focus to the extreme. I had trouble disengaging with whatever I was doing.

Strattera- Made me super tired, I couldn't get past the first week.

Provigil- wanted to give this non-stim a chance. I took for 6 months but found it just wasn't a strong enough effect.

Eventually ended up on Adderall and Focalin. Both work equally as well for me but I preferred the lower dose of Focalin.

How do you maintain a stable tolerance?

I got to the point in about a year where 60mg of adderall barely felt like it was doing anything, and that’s not sustainable at all

Well sadly I think a lot of it comes down to body chemistry/metabolism. I have a pretty slow metabolism. If you can, I would suggest taking the weekends off, and whenever you are on vacation (activity permitting). This can help to reset your tolerance and get you back to baseline. I know there are also a bunch of non-stimulent medications that have come out, which are likely to reduce/eliminate the tolerance factor. I tried 2, both were a nogo for me. But that doesnt mean that one wouldnt work for you.

I’ve tried strattera and it worked for a day then didn’t work since then so I’m kinda skeptical of nonstimulants except maybe like modafinil which is almost a proper stimulant at that point lol. It still might not work for me who knows, never been on it and my insurance will find a reason to deny coverage

maybe focalin would be better because it doesn’t cause the NT efflux like amphetamine

Ironically the long term tolerance was much more noticeable with adderall than with desoxyn for some reason

Same boat tried 5 pharmacies been out of stock for almost 2 months. It sucks but what can you do it was in the news the other day manufactures apparently expect the shortage to last until at least mid april.

I have been going to the different hospital retail pharmacies with no issues

So I just went through the same issue and it took me 6 weeks to get my script. I had to call CVS everyday and what finally worked for me was going to my doctor's office getting a physical paper of my script because it cannot be transferred electronicaly. Then calling and asking which location had the quantity I needed in stock Good luck!

You can try a mail order pharmacy such as Amazon or express scripts.

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. I would try some CVS in Targets and also smaller pharmacies. The Walgreens in Cranston too. Good luck!

My Dr switched me to Focalin XR as soon as the shortage started to hit over here and I was skeptical at first, mostly because I’d never heard of it until she wrote the prescription. Gotta say though, it actually works better for me than Adderall ever did. Obviously, you’re mileage may vary but could be worth considering.

I also switched meds. Trying out Strattera instead. Also, as someone who frequently struggles with the whole calling a pharmacy every day thing with ADHD, it made more sense to not be on a medication that was causing anxiety trying to get a hold of the medication. That was opposite of what I was seeking out with trying out meds.

I take this medication as well. Some drs are willing to adjust the prescription for example instead of one 20 mg tablet, two 10 mg tablets. Some drs have no issue doing it, others do. Best of luck!

I gave up after months of not getting Adderall and switched to Vyvanse. I absolutely loved it. I just haven’t gotten out refilled since December beater of how expensive it is and not having the drive to fight my insurance over it. I hope a good generic of it comes out once the patent expires.

No idea on adderall, but there were/are shortages on amoxicillin. I had more luck with local pharmacies (recognizing that there are few) as opposed to the big chains. And you can actually talk to someone who can tell you if they have it (though dunno if they’d be more hesitant about telling you they have controlled meds in stock).

Unfortunately places that have it won't advertise it, or will just say no because it's easier to say no than to be yelled at by your regulars about not having it. Less populated towns are always worth looking into. Especially towns where there's no bus lines, walking traffic, or reason to go to on a regular basis.
