You’ll be better off in MA when it comes to education.

Massachusetts is light years ahead of Rhode Island in all aspects of education, to the point where our goals for the future are tied to the levels that MA is at presently.

As for tax benefits, if your ex works in MA but lives in RI, he’ll pay taxes in RI and have to file his taxes in both. Anything withheld in MA will be remitted to RI.

But an attorney will handle all of this with ease.

You’ll also have to file in MA, as that’s where the two of you lived.

Eh, I'm from central MA and I live in northern RI and my kids go to school here. Unless they are in an affluent area around Boston I doubt the schools there are any better than the schools in the towns op mentioned.
