Wait, we HAVE to get rid of our old plates??? In that case I’m gonna try to get the Mr Potato Head Food Bank one

As of 1 Jan all new registrations, replacements for lost or damaged plates, and registration renewals will result in you receiving the new plate design. u/medicmechanist38 has also replied to my comment saying that the renewal plates already have the stickers attached to them.
The DMV doesn't want old plates turned in. I've had my plates since 1997 and there's actually some sentimental value, so I'm glad I can hold onto them.
