In addition to many collegiate artists in and around Providence, there has always been a very healthy respect for art of all kinds here. There are many shops that sell locally made art all around the state.

AS220 is one hub for local artists, they have galleries, performances, and classes of all kinds.

Check out AS220, Binch Press, Q.A.W., The Avenue Concept, The Steel Yard, the Wurks, Nicholson file, Anti-Robot Club, New Urban Arts, Gather Glass, Anyhow studio, PVD printmakers, DWRI studio, and that’s all just in Providence! There’s more amazing art stuff in PVD that I’m forgetting about and beyond, out into the other cities & towns of RI. Help me out Reddit! What a fun list to compile

I’m also an illustrator. If you live in RI, you can apply for an artistic exemption to sell limited edition signed works of art sales tax free, be at live craft fairs or an online shop. I love that aspect!

Atrium on main in Pawtucket does art battles on Friday nights. Just checked and it looks like they're at the end of the season. The championship is March 5th.

I’m not really an artist by any stretch but as far as I know Prov has one of the better art scenes in the whole country, especially for its size. You got RISD, basically the Harvard of Art Schools, a city/state that supports artists financially, and a result that creates a melting pot for creatives to thrive

Rhode island has a thriving fantastic art community. Music, art, performance. Providence and pockets along the coast are fantastic. The list above of places is a great one. Definitely pop in to as220 and ask literally anybody about ... whatever you're interested in... and they'll probably have some information for ya!

I met Emma Watson when she was checking out PVD, considering going to Brown. Her Dad asked me about this City's arts scene. I said, "without the arts (RISD, Trinity Rep, AS220, Wilbury Group, Metal Works, PVD Black Rep), this town would be Fall River."

He didn't know what Fall River means. So I translated to Brit. "Without that Arts, PVD would be Bolton." He understood that. Bolton is a Mill Town that couldn't adapt.

in the summertime there are numerous block parties. can't do that in boston: it would shut down "business."

theres a big huge Pride week in june..... theres weekends where they shut down a couple streets and have world music/hip hop/ etc on multiple stages....theres a punk rock/metal festival.... theres food festivals...

look up this thing called Water Fire ... they light campfires in little fire pits that are installed all along the canal that runs through downtown... you can pay to ride in a boat along it like in Venice..... Along the canal people sit.... drink and eat from street vendors... and the city blasts music (a wild variety of classical/world music) throughout the area.... its every other weekend for a few months...

the venues the previous commenter mentioned....

you'll find your place. have fun :)

Looks like people forgot to mention The Collaborative, in Warren. A wonderful group of local artists. They host local figure drawing nights, have galleries that sponsor local artists. And run classes for kids and adults. They're relatively unknown, I just discovered them and am super grateful for the monthly figure drawing.
