I was recently given 25 hours of community service as part of the RI Diversion Program. I have reached out to several nonprofits that the Public Defenders office said takes volunteers only for those places to shoot me down because I have an open charge against me. This program is so that nonviolent first offenders can have the charge wiped if it's minor enough. Does anyone know of any nonprofits in the state that will actually allow a person to try and make right and do their community service?

Save the Bay, Habitat for Humanity are good places to look.

It has been years for me, but when I was in a similar situation I went to my local YMCA and did my community service hours there.

Take religious beliefs out of it, most religious organizations will be more than happy for the help. Churches, temples, mosques, etc. need help.
