Hello! We’ve yet to find a favorite Mexican restaurant in the state but are really wanting to go sit somewhere and eat chips/salsa/guacamole and drink some dranks. Hence the title as I know the answer to this may not be the same as the answer to where to go to get the best Mexican food…

Our 6-month baby brains thank you in advance!

Xaco Taco or Diego’s don’t disappoint with chips and margs

OP isn't asking about Mexican food.

But the one in Smithfield not WW!

WW one is alright. Better on a quiet night

LadyScorps t1_jdfdy5p wrote

Haha true, it’s not bad, but I find the one in Smithfield to be more consistent and chill

Only the one in WW has that dapper gentleman with the gray ponytail, though

Tortilla Flats.

rustybullrake t1_jdf4573 wrote

This is truly the only thing they're good at, in my opinion.

I always enjoyed sharing a pitcher of the "top shelf" margaritas and some nachos, but every time I ordered an actual meal it was a disappointment.

15

No-Carpet8533 t1_jdfkwfi wrote

Top Shelf, extra splash of OJ and chips and mixed salsa!

Hear me out on this…the Flats baked wings are actually really, really good. I know it seems weird to order wings at a ‘texmex’ place but they’re delicious. Get the buffalo!

I haven't been to the East Providence location yet, but El Mariachi is my go-to for Mexican. They have excellent cucumber margaritas and table-side fresh guacamole.

The one in East Providence is great!

Cantina del Rio in Warwick has great salsa and chips and giant margaritas. Foods decent too but the margaritas are the highlight. Lots of options, good service, not too expensive. Gets VERY busy sometimes

11

jujubean17 t1_jdht81s wrote

There’s one in sk too. Love their huge margs and Spanish rice

1

zalbinian t1_jdij80d wrote

Cantina Del Rio is great. The Guac is made fresh when you order. They have a huge variety of Margaritas, and sizes. Also some creative specialty drinks.

They have a lot of options for meals, but their fajitas never miss.

Their deserts are also worth going for.

1

b_______e t1_jdirdte wrote

Personally a huge fan of the pastor tacos and the chili verde dinner but my family all love the fajitas there too. My old favorite Mexican place was agaves on rt2 in Warwick by Lowe’s (rip) and it’s definitely a step below that but still an absolute favorite when I’m in town visiting family and friends.

El Paso in CF is the answer also the answer where to go to get the best Mexican food

stopleavingvoicemail t1_jdf786l wrote

Get those salty chips and dranks now, 6 month parents! They get older and start eating all the chips and demanding “pretty juicy drinks!”

8

noungning t1_jdfyf1o wrote

So here's the thing, since there's inflation and all. If you don't care about the chips being thick and ok with those thin ones. Go to Chili, download their app and become a member and get free chips and Salsa, they always have some kind of monthly $5 margarita special.

If you care about the chips, I personally like the thicker tortilla chips from Don Jose Tequila but their drinks have gone way down hill the last time I went. So my next stop would be California Tacos, but they don't have any liquor so just pick something up at the liquor store lol.

One_Transition_5763 t1_jdjyok3 wrote

I love Don Jose Tequila’s table side guacamole. I hate hearing that about the drinks! What do you usually order that’s not good anymore?

2

noungning t1_jdjzks6 wrote

We used to get pitchers of the red sangria or peach/white sangria. It was soooo good.

2

One_Transition_5763 t1_jdk0786 wrote

Damn, sorry. I’ll have to think twice before trying that. I think I’ll stick to my go to margarita. Happy eating this spring 🌸

Here for El Charro.

Fresh chips. Lots of dips to go with them. Margaritas the size of your head.

It’s my go-to for occasions like this.

5

Intelligent_Berry914 t1_jdh74fq wrote

Love El Charro I don't know if they're still doing it but for awhile after covid you could get margaritas to go... It was in a quart soup container... Freaking amazing

I love Chili's chips and salsa. I've also been digging their pricier margaritas. I discovered that staying away from the "house" margarita specials for $2 opens up a whole new margarita scene at a Chili's.

If you’re doing chips and margaritas… definitely Tortilla flats on the east side. Great chips… even greater margs with good variety, chill atmosphere and good service. El Mariachi in EP is fun too. But I’d give tortilla slight edge on the vibe.

Cantina del Rio in SK. All the food I’ve tried hasn’t been great but excellent chips and salsa (unlimited and free). The margs are huge, tasty, and get you drunk. Plus it’s on the bike path so you can have lunch then walk it off

I’ve always heard los Andes is really good but never been. I have been to cantina del rio many times and they have huge margaritas and complimentary chips and salsa that are really good. They also have a guac bar!
