I was a member of Lifetime Fitness, and I think there’s four of them in MA. It has jacuzzis (yes plural), pools open till 12:00 PM, and state of the art equipment and classes.

Is there anything like this in RI? I work till 9:30, so it was amazing to go for a swim and hit the jacuzzi before going home. Thanks!

It’s really bothering me, did you mean Midnight 12AM or Noon 12PM?

Nothing says luxury like a gym with a pool that is open until noon.

Only here to comment that OP’s username was still available 3 years ago but fits the demographic of what I assume is like 25% of Reddit lol

I think the gym at the Omni in downtown pvd has a sauna

I miss Lifetime. hands down best gym. I haven’t found anything close to it here.

You know the feeling. I was an original Member of the one in Westwood, and it definitely enhanced my well-being, from the late night swims to the morning yoga and jacuzzi.

I don’t know why they aren’t in RI!

One word: luxury. Have you looked at your surroundings here?

Booooo! Not all of the state is Woonsocket and west Warwick. It’s a nice place. For Christ sake taylor swift summers in RI

Singleguywithacat OP t1_jc0asp4 wrote

Yes! RI is beautiful, and the towns are just as nice as anything you’d find in MA (in my opinion).

I get what you’re saying, Boston is > Providence, but I don’t know if RI as a whole wouldn’t have some demand for a luxury gym!

I think the closest we had were the Boston Sports Clubs (Westminster and another near East Side Market) pre-COVID, and I think only one was full service. Of course there’s the club at Brown, that’s simply a ‘know a guy’ sit, and that’s it. We should be able to agree on one thing - there’s nothing luxurious about the YMCA.

What’s that even mean? RI has both extremes and everything in between. You think the whole state is Woonsocket?

estheredna t1_jc0fpvb wrote

I was too, I remember it had fancier soaps in the bathrooms than I'll buy at home. Twas sweet.

Looking for anything in particular? Healthtrax always seemed nicer than most. Pre covid, sauna/steam/hot tub classes Olympic pool on site instructors. Child care facilities.

MarionberryRough4798 t1_jbzzdze wrote

They tailored more towards the morning crowd but were open until 10 from my memory. It's been a while

GotenRocko t1_jc1zh8a wrote

I was thinking of them too, only thing that has what op is looking for, but they close early, 8pm weekdays, Friday at 6, sat 3p, sun 1pm.

Singleguywithacat OP t1_jc04wg8 wrote

Thank you. However they aren’t open late night, which is really what I need. I’m shocked there’s not one “luxury” gym in Rhode Island.

Didn’t they see how popular Whole Foods is after holding out for so long!

Providence had one a few years ago and they started to become less luxury based since they clearly weren't getting enough income, then they closed out right. This was all pre-Covid so that had no impact.

Pools open until noon? Closed all afternoon? Is that good?

Singleguywithacat OP t1_jc05hv8 wrote

Really need something that’s open later, but I don’t think it exists.

The pool at the Y and LA Fitness is open in the afternoon, and into the evening.

Singleguywithacat OP t1_jc0609t wrote

The Y, didn’t even think of that ! I live in Lincoln, I’ll check theirs out.

sbaz86 t1_jc1h93e wrote

The Y in Lincoln is dope, like really nice. Not exactly “luxurious” but really clean and it’s pretty big.

4

cryssyluvsbrian t1_jc08etd wrote

That's where we go there are saunas but don't know if they open again they were working on them.

KeepYrGlitterDry t1_jc2eabs wrote

The Y closes their pool in Cranston at the drop of a hat. Today for example it's closed to repair the pool deck. Then there's swim meets. Then there's family hour. So actually there's really only early AM blocks of pool time, sometimes afternoon too, but the pool there generally is off limits around 6pm while the rest of the YMCA is open until 9pm.

Edit: I forgot there is an 8:00-8:45pm swim block. Again, you'd have to go to your local YMCA and ask for the pool schedule, or maybe check their website for hours.

YMCA has pools open beyond noon... just need to check the schedule for lap swim (or whatever you're into )

The Newport YMCA is undergoing a $10+ million renovation. I believe phase 1 of 3 is complete and phase 2 is almost complete. Once complete it will be a excellent facility.

10 million dollars for a YMCA ??????😮😮😮😮 excuse me while I choke on some air….

3

KeepYrGlitterDry t1_jc2fed4 wrote

Facilities repairs are expensive. My YMCA looks like the paint job is from the 80s/90s....they had frozen pipes this winter. Every shower there works, but each has something a little wrong with it. One shower head is mounted too low for adults, another won't maintain water pressure, another stall had the metal shelf screw come out and is slanted, etc. And these are just the small things. There's a reason your average person doesn't have a heated indoor pool. They're $$$$$$$ to maintain, replace parts as needed and keep looking good.

Yes, they are private, in people’s homes, the wealthy build their own

RandomChurn t1_jc1jlpx wrote

Exactly my thought

TheOGJayRussle t1_jc1lxwg wrote

I only know this because when the pandemic hit my brother built a full blown gym at his business and everyone was going there to work out, they couldn’t stop people from going to a private gym, including flat screens on the walls, and a high quality stereo system.

There was one luxury gym in RI but after Covid it went to hell and eventually shut down due to poor management

Leif_Erikson1 t1_jc1kpsn wrote

I used to live in Framingham and moved to RI 4 years ago. RI is MA without gentrification. You don’t have access to much luxury around here. Most places in this state are stuck in the 80s, with some exceptions (like Garden City in Cranston).

ichristyi t1_jc215xf wrote

Health Trax in Seekonk and Warwick have pools, Jacuzzi and Saunas but they're only open until 8. They DO, however open at 5am.

bambooboi t1_jc0k507 wrote

There is NO luxury market in Rhode Island.

The most upscale stores that used to be in Rhody left with our gradual socioeconomic downturn over the past 20 years.

Boston Sports Club would be my best bet, but it doesn't necessarily fit the bill for your wants.

2

Mountain_Bill5743 t1_jc5g8a1 wrote

The short answer is no. Rhode Island doesn't really have a huge gym market and doesn't have too many chains overall (but a few lower cost chain gyms tbf). They do have class pass options in some of the boutique places.

I mostly know Providence and Providence has a large swath of the population who work/go to/are alumni of Brown. It's the best gym in the city, by far, though probably not with the hours you want or maybe not available to you as a non alumni (their rules have ebbed and flowed over the years). People pay out the nose to have those amenities in their fees, so it just doesn't make sense to have a "luxury" competitor when you have a college town.
