I was a member of Lifetime Fitness, and I think there’s four of them in MA. It has jacuzzis (yes plural), pools open till 12:00 PM, and state of the art equipment and classes.

Is there anything like this in RI? I work till 9:30, so it was amazing to go for a swim and hit the jacuzzi before going home. Thanks!

Looking for anything in particular? Healthtrax always seemed nicer than most. Pre covid, sauna/steam/hot tub classes Olympic pool on site instructors. Child care facilities.

You know the feeling. I was an original Member of the one in Westwood, and it definitely enhanced my well-being, from the late night swims to the morning yoga and jacuzzi.

I don’t know why they aren’t in RI!

The Newport YMCA is undergoing a $10+ million renovation. I believe phase 1 of 3 is complete and phase 2 is almost complete. Once complete it will be a excellent facility.

Only here to comment that OP’s username was still available 3 years ago but fits the demographic of what I assume is like 25% of Reddit lol

There is NO luxury market in Rhode Island.

The most upscale stores that used to be in Rhody left with our gradual socioeconomic downturn over the past 20 years.

Boston Sports Club would be my best bet, but it doesn't necessarily fit the bill for your wants.

There was one luxury gym in RI but after Covid it went to hell and eventually shut down due to poor management

Yes, they are private, in people’s homes, the wealthy build their own

I think the closest we had were the Boston Sports Clubs (Westminster and another near East Side Market) pre-COVID, and I think only one was full service. Of course there’s the club at Brown, that’s simply a ‘know a guy’ sit, and that’s it. We should be able to agree on one thing - there’s nothing luxurious about the YMCA.

I used to live in Framingham and moved to RI 4 years ago. RI is MA without gentrification. You don’t have access to much luxury around here. Most places in this state are stuck in the 80s, with some exceptions (like Garden City in Cranston).

I only know this because when the pandemic hit my brother built a full blown gym at his business and everyone was going there to work out, they couldn’t stop people from going to a private gym, including flat screens on the walls, and a high quality stereo system.

Health Trax in Seekonk and Warwick have pools, Jacuzzi and Saunas but they're only open until 8. They DO, however open at 5am.

The Y closes their pool in Cranston at the drop of a hat. Today for example it's closed to repair the pool deck. Then there's swim meets. Then there's family hour. So actually there's really only early AM blocks of pool time, sometimes afternoon too, but the pool there generally is off limits around 6pm while the rest of the YMCA is open until 9pm.

Edit: I forgot there is an 8:00-8:45pm swim block. Again, you'd have to go to your local YMCA and ask for the pool schedule, or maybe check their website for hours.

Facilities repairs are expensive. My YMCA looks like the paint job is from the 80s/90s....they had frozen pipes this winter. Every shower there works, but each has something a little wrong with it. One shower head is mounted too low for adults, another won't maintain water pressure, another stall had the metal shelf screw come out and is slanted, etc. And these are just the small things. There's a reason your average person doesn't have a heated indoor pool. They're $$$$$$$ to maintain, replace parts as needed and keep looking good.

What's a luxury gym?... Is this where they workout for you and send the results to your doctor?

The short answer is no. Rhode Island doesn't really have a huge gym market and doesn't have too many chains overall (but a few lower cost chain gyms tbf). They do have class pass options in some of the boutique places.

I mostly know Providence and Providence has a large swath of the population who work/go to/are alumni of Brown. It's the best gym in the city, by far, though probably not with the hours you want or maybe not available to you as a non alumni (their rules have ebbed and flowed over the years). People pay out the nose to have those amenities in their fees, so it just doesn't make sense to have a "luxury" competitor when you have a college town.

I’m looking for one as well that would match my gym in NJ, Valley Lifestyles. Healthtrax seems closest in amenities but not as clean and new. 🙁
