My property has boundary flags in the middle of a stone wall. That is, the wall itself is a few feet thick, and the flagged stake is set right in the middle. Do I own half the wall? Anyone know how this works, it feels like you can't own half of something like this.

Sure it makes sense. You each own half, which mean neither of you can do anything to the wall without the consent of the other. Dismantling your half of the wall would undermine their half, so you can't do it. Same goes for them, so you end up with a bit of a buffer zone.

In addition to others’ comments, Historic stone walls are often protected by law. Cannot be disturbed.

You clearly don't live somewhere with old stone walls. They're moved all the time.

“You clearly don’t live…” = Arrogance

For 10 years I lived in a home that had a stone wall on 2 of the 4 property boundaries. Honest. Not making it up. I did not move one rock. Loved and respected those walls.

You do you.

People doing stuff all the time doesn't mean it's legal. Historic stone walls are mentioned in RI law, it would be best to read them yourself to figure out exactly how changing them needs to be done, and also get your shit surveyed to figure out where the actual property line is. Does the deed state the wall is owned by both property owners?
