Hi everyone! My name is Katie (25F) and I live close to Providence, RI with my boyfriend (27M) and we are looking to start a weekly/biweekly board game night to make some new friends in the area! We recently bought and started playing Gloomhaven and have been having a blast, but think it would be fun with more people. We're huge nerds and play DnD together and have other board games like Mansion of Madness, Code Names, Disney Family Feud, and Catan (but are always down to try new ones).

If you would be interested and live around the area, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdpgnCUtgAwgYwDb2a-KSE_4dEhV-IK41kT766AVJB9VkG1mQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

We're hoping to meet whoever is interested virtually first and then at a restaurant/mutual spot nearby before getting started so everyone can feel comfortable with the goal of eventually hosting at our place since some games take up quite a bit of space. We have two dogs, a mini weenie named Ollie and a lab/pitbull mix named Maya, so it's important that you aren't allergic to dogs (of if you are just to be aware that we have them and that you'd still feel ok with them around!).

Day/time is flexible; there is a spot on the form to fill that out. Were during the week to be the best option, board game nights would likely be held at around 7pm EST, but weekends are more flexible!

The form asks for your Discord tag, but if you're interested and don't have discord, feel free to message me here.

Love this idea.

It's unfortunate that the Providence area doesn't have a board game cafe, a place that serves food, drinks, and sells games. I know there's one store in Pawtucket, but that's about it.

I had some friends move out to Berkeley and found their way into a board gaming group. A brewery hosted it on Tuesdays: they were happy to be taken over by the nerds on a night they would otherwise not see many folks. Maybe that's something to explore moving forward?

We had a great one in the Arcade called Good Game Grill. It had tons of potential, but it opened just a couple of months before the pandemic hit, and did not survive the great shutdown unfortunately.

Ugh. That happened to my friend who opened one in Amherst mass that did great for a year before the pandemic hurt her business and a greedy landlord finished it off.

Not that anyone asked but Albany has two, one downtown and then one downtown a town over in case anyones nearby or looking for one!

Albany.. NY? Pretty cool

Austin had 3 places in a 10 minute radius, one store with a lot of tables, one bar, and one combination bar and store

It's a very frustrating time for the gaming scene here. We used to have soooo many excellent shops from Die Hard to Mana Core to Rah-Cocos that had ample free gaming space. Now the only places left in the city like that is one shop that's extremely corporate and overpriced and charges to just sit & play, and the handful of others that just doesn't have enough space.

Do you guys ever play Cones of Dunshire? Critics have described it as “painfully tedious”

The German American club in Pawtucket has a monthly board game night, the second Thursday night of the month down in the Ratskeller. You don't need to be a member (or German) to come in for it. They serve inexpensive but good beer at the bar as well. It's focused on board games rather than role playing games, and it's a good chance to try out new games since typically someone there already knows how to play what they brought and is willing to teach.
