I went to butler hospital and did a couple of their day programs and they gave me a psychiatrist for medication management, they also set me up with a therapist. If you are having mental health issues and need help I can’t recommend butler hospital enough. They have helped me so much, I’m actually going back in a couple weeks. Hope you find the help you deserve. 😊

If you share roughly the age range, area, and maybe what you're looking for it may be helpful.

Psychology Today has a find a psychiatrist option but you may have looked there (hit or miss).

There's a general stigma about Butler sometimes but I'd feel comfortable with a general recommendation for their psychiatrists. They have an adult outpatient program but not sure the wait.

If you need someone sooner than later, Quality Behavioral Health in Warwick seems to always be taking new patients, however, what I've heard from them is mixed and my own personal experience with one of the docs (years before QBH as a kid) was not pleasant.

I found a complete telehealth behavioral health resource through my insurance company website. It includes psychiatry, therapy and neurological testing. I suggest checking there first, if you haven’t already.

Otherwise, Psychology Today is a great resource that will mention if the dr is taking new patients, insurance types, and if they work on a sliding scale.

For YEARS I paid out of pocket for therapy/med management because the options through my insurance were such shit. Drs know this, and will often work on a sliding scale to help out when paying out of pocket. I had one dr that would literally tell me to keep my money for the next appointment. There are drs who just want to help.

Best of luck with all of this!!

Now if only people could actually get the meds they are prescribed. These constant shortages are exhausting.

That said, RICBT is good though they likely have a waitlist.

They really are! I haven’t been affected yet but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

100% NOT Mark Zimmerman at Rhode Island Hospital.

He was one of the worst doctors my family has ever met. He talked down to us, like he was better than us.

It will depend on your insurance and where you are. I was at South County Psychiatry for a while and they were professional and helpful.

He is not a psychiatrist but he’s a prescribing NP and I’ve found him to be more up to date on new medications and new uses. His name is Kenneth Baris and he is in NK but all my appts have been telehealth. Good luck and I hope you find what you need.

You could call you medical coverage and ask them for a list of who is covered and then google for reviews and their practice information. You could also ask your primary medical care provider for names and a referral. You could also call Butler Hospital and see if they have outpatient care with their psychiatrists. (I’m pretty sure they do).

I’ve been very happy with South County Psychiatry in North Kingstown. Quick intake process by phone and email, super easy to work with, lots of appointment reminders, easy virtual appointments and my practitioner is very responsive to messages or calls.

Edit- forgot to add that practitioners name is Ken Baris
