Hi. Looking to go for a hike this weekend and see some fall colors. I live in Newport but don’t mind driving 45 mins or so for s good spot. I’m a regular hiker so distance and difficulty aren’t really an issue. Suggestions appreciated!

If you’re willing to drive a bit further, Old Furnace Stars Park just over the border into Connecticut is fantastic. There’s a nice hike through the woods and then opens to a pond with a large cliff to with overlooks. And just up the road from Newport in Tiverton is Fort Bardon with the Sins and Flesh trails.

Do yourself a favor and google Old Furnace. It’s probably exactly what you’re looking for without having to drive to the mountains

You’re welcome. I truly love to share popular/hidden gems that get tucked into the busy folds of New England

Mount Tom in Arcadia has some good lookouts, in addition to a decent bit of elevation (for RI).

Purgatory Chasm is a good one, lots of verticality and beautiful scenery

Tiverton. Pardon Grey and Weetamoo woods. They're connected, so there are a few approaches. This time of year it's a trail runner's dream. Worst case scenario, you run over a husky that pops out around a corner.
