Why does the former mayor of Newport's son Christian Winthrop have a long, violent rap sheet and heavily redacted arrest records, and is released without bail?
- 2022: two charges each of domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct stemming from alleged incidents on July 17 and Sept. 4. Woman bruised on her face and wrist.
- 2015: Simple assault charge; pushed a man down stairs and verbally assaulted a woman. https://patch.com/rhode-island/newport/winthrop-arrested-again-held-without-bail-aci-0 ; this incident also resulted in a B+E charge.
- 2013: Another domestic assault charge; this report alleges an attempted cover-up. His father was mayor at the time. It was reported on in 2013 that he was arrested three times prior by this point for similar charges.
