I’ve talked to my doctor, she said to take Zyrtec, which does zip for me. It might be mold, not sure though. Is Ri particularly moldy this year 😂

Asthma and allergy sufferer here. Moving back to RI after 10 years was murder and it was all sensitivity to tree pollens. Go see allergy and asthma specialists. Don’t lean on your PC.

dc_dobbz t1_itv15vw wrote

Also, Zyrtec didn’t do Jack for me. I’ve been on Allegra for years now and it’s been great. But I would try them all out a month at a time until you find one that works.

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_itv4cs3 wrote

Thanks, I’ve tried zyzal or the one with the owl, but at night, so not sure if it worked well or not.

mooscaretaker t1_ituu8mm wrote

Yes! We're surrounded by trees and with the rain and falling leaves etc, the mold has been really high. I take claritan and it works better than Zyrtec

samskeyti_ t1_itw96wk wrote

This time of year is really hard for me, I am allergic to tree mold and just the rain and leaves and etc, I usually have a hard time. Air always feels 'heavy' if that makes sense.

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_itwaacm wrote

I totally know what you mean by heavy air, the humidity has been rough the past few days. I’m gathering that it is most likely mold from what many are saying.

samskeyti_ t1_itwd6sc wrote

yeah it's this perfect combo of humid plus mold

There is an RSV outbreak amongst infants/toddlers. Been around any kids lately? Probably a viral infection.

I should say, I was stuffy/wheezy before my trip, 100% fine on the trip, then got back and almost the same day, full wheeze.

Every year this time of year my asthma flares up. Definitely seasonal allergy.

It seems like it’s always allergy season, then when it’s not, it’s dry winter air 🤣

brick1972 t1_itv15xc wrote

Dry summer wet fall has created the worst amount of fall tree pollen I've seen since moving here. I have a big cedar next door and a couple of white pines and every surface of the outside of my house was yellow green before this week's rain. It's been bad.

Dry_Faithlessness135 t1_itv2e1t wrote

It’s ragweed season … it’s brutal this year, more so than other years. At least that has been my issue for a bit.

Coincel_pro t1_itulg65 wrote

Please ignore the covid trolls below peddling misinformation. It could be covid, could also be RSV which is trending upward, could be multiple things.

Air quality has been terrible out west with the wildfires, has the jetstream moved any of that over to us in the past few days? Wondering if that might be playing a role.

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_ituo1ce wrote

I had stuffy/wheezy issues before my trip, then on my trip it was better. Legit got back to RI and started wheezing. It was like a switch.

Coincel_pro t1_ituywyn wrote

Do you get allergies? Wondering if theres a particular type of pollen / fungus in your area that's tripping it. It's been much wetter and warmer the past few days vs the ones before. Could have set something off.

2

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_itv4ske wrote

I never really had allergies until moving back to the east coast. I grew up in the woods, but I’ve read allergies can come on later in life too. I’m wondering if it’s just a bad year.

3

RandomChurn t1_itvv1k5 wrote

No one in my family has allergies. Yet I got them in my mid-30s. Definitely allergic asthma, plus tree pollen, dogs (probably cats but I haven't tried living with those since), maybe ragweed, and oral allergies to certain food, and probably other stuff too -- it's crazy. And sucks.

A lot of people have trouble with mold in the fall.

This might be a virus because for 2 days I felt like I could not breathe and kept taking my inhaler.

Also, one night I was trying to sleep and it felt like something was stuck in my throat.

Then a friend of mine came over yesterday (who had been around my house before I felt this way) and said that HE was having trouble breathing and coughing up phelgm. SO...it could very well be a virus.

Hope you feel better soon.

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_ituo5ep wrote

I’ve used my wife’s inhaler, it helps some, but I’m not good at breathing in the mist 😂 Thank you for the well wishes.

2

FieryVegetables t1_itutv5u wrote

Spacers help with technique, but I think they are Rx only and you should get your own Rx inhaler anyway. Maybe an air purifier, too.

BobJacobs2022 t1_itupm5z wrote

It's going around. I work in an Urgent Care and everyone is coming in with what you have. No one is testing positive for Covid. I think it's this weather, allergies or prob a virus picked up from the little ones. You'll feel better in a few days.

If this is really an ongoing issue please PLEASE get off Reddit and go see your Dr or go to a clinic that accepts your insurance.

This is not the place to diagnose health issues and respiratory issues can be very serious very rapidly.

If Zyrtec was recommended and it does not work for you, you might try an alternative OTC like Xyzal, Clarintin, or Allegra. Assuming an antihistamine isn’t working a steroid based inhaler may need to be prescribed. But these are things a medical professional should advise you on

There are no out of the ordinary allergens at this time of year in RI. There is a post summer season form August through September, but it’s over by this time. The rain as of late would also curb that. As for mold that is situational to where you live. If you don’t have mold issues in your home any other time of the em year then you would not suddenly have them now.

3

Megs0226 t1_itvra64 wrote

There’s a lot going around, including allergies. It’s also very humid today 🥵 that can’t help.

3

degggendorf t1_itulk9j wrote

Could it be something as simple as seasonal allergies? Like, if you were away in a completely different climate for a bit then came back in to the peak of whatever fall pollen we have around here, it could feel worse than if you were here for the whole bell curve of pollen.

Also, it has been particularly wet and humid, which must not help. I mean, I can literally see the air outside right now...

Then of course, traveling you might have been exposed to any number of cold/flu/rhino/noro/corona viruses which could have respiratory ramifications.

Loveroffinerthings OP t1_ituniht wrote

I take a daily Zyrtec, but I don’t know if it does much. I was stuffy before leaving, then on the trip I was 100% fine. Almost as soon as I got back to RI, wheeze. I’m wondering if it’s the humidity, mold spores or something like that.

3

pico-pico-hammer t1_itv0w8b wrote

I find it helpful to switch around my daily allergy meds every once in a while. Allegra is really good for me for at least a couple of week. I'm on levocetirizine right now (Xyzal). I would recommend them both.
