Looking for recommendations on a Buddhist temple RI/MA. I would say I am very new to this religion, in search of gaining more knowledge. Kind of embarrassing but I'd like to start somewhere

There a large monastery up in Cumberland on Pound Road.
Thank you! Have you ever been?
A couple times. There are a few people that live there, but I haven't been in several years.
There’s a huge Buddhist temple in raynham MA right off of route 24
Awesome thanks, I'm def gonna check it out
It’s the Providence Zen Center and their Sunday morning meditation class is great- they’re very accepting.
There's a Buddhist temple in Raynham ma it's beautiful I might need this in my life right now I got way to many burdens
Biggest one outside of Asia, IIRC.
There are many varieties of Buddhism, and you might want to think about what appeals to you. This is not a complete list, but there's Tibetan Buddhism, Japanese and Korean Zen, Vipassana, and so on. Some of the options in RI/MA don't actually have temples, but meet in community gathering spaces and churches.
r/Buddhism has quite a lot of resources to help you get oriented.
Because we're not in a big city, a good way to search for local options is to look for a "sangha" (community) in your area.
I hope this helps! Please feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.
you might try Vedanta Society of Providence? up on College Hill
Not sure what type of Buddhism you are looking at but there are about 4 Theravada temples that cater to both Laotian and Cambodian communities in RI and the one for the Thai community in Mass. .
Cambodian temples - Cranston and Providence
Laotian temples - Smithfield and Woonsocket
Thai temple - Raynham, MA
Also recommended. It is really great! I’ve been going there every week for a few months now! Come on Wednesday’s at 5pm for dinner and then meditation after! We’re very friendly and welcoming to all.
