They're volunteers, most of which are doing this for no pay at all, and most are just really really splendid people. Every worker I've come across since I started voting have greeted me with a smile and were happy to see me just show up to vote. Be sure to thank them for their time and efforts today! The democratic process wouldn't be the same without them ♥

Just have to correct that the actual poll workers are not volunteers they are paid. Not a lot, which is why I don't do it any more since it's such a long day, wish they let people do shifts. Any volunteers at polling places usually are there for individual campaigns and are not poll workers, they are there for get out the vote push, they check off who votes, that's why the poll workers call out your name and address, so they can see who they have to call or go door to door to get them to vote before the end of the day.
