I just visited the zoo this past weekend and a lot of pumpkins were still on display. Having a closer look in the daylight they looked fake & upon further investigation they turned out to be styrofoam........... Is this common knowledge? All these years I thought they were real with such beautiful designs thinking it took so much time and talent, and it turns out to just be styrofoam. I feel pretty betrayed. Lied to. Scammed. The public must know.

Nobody tell this person that most of the animals are just people in tandem costumes.

It might not be common knowledge, but it’s understandable. If they were all real, there’s no way they’d sit there all month without rotting or being eaten by squirrels.

It also takes months to carve them all; there’s still talent involved. The whole thing is produced by Passion for Pumpkins, an outside company which runs the event in multiple cities.

It's pretty common knowledge. Did you actually expect carved pumpkins to not mold and rot when they're on display for a month?

They used to be all real. My mom used to volunteer to light them and always came home smelling like pumpkins. Now it's all LEDs and yes a large portion are fake

Yeah I remember I went late in the season early on and you could smell the pumpkins starting to go.

I've been twice. I won't go again. The traffic is ridiculous. You pay for the privilege of being driven like cattle through the displays. Not my idea of a fun time.

Keene, NH used to do a pumpkin festival where the local folks all carved pumpkins.

I think they were in the Guinness Book of World Records for a few years.

All real. All hand-carved. Was super impressive.

Oh. Also free. I think they did money from concessions vs. tickets. However, just one weekend vs a whole month.

I mean many of them are still carved out so it's still a lot of time and talent, even if a bunch of them are foam.

Lol how do you think they were suspended in the trees? If they were real, what would’ve happened if one fell on someone?
