Any local music venues or concerts featuring the saxophone?

My son recently began playing the saxophone and has really taken a liking to it. Thinking a great Christmas present would be for us to go see some live music. Not looking for holiday music necessarily though. I was wondering if anybody knew spots that featured the saxophone whether jazz or classical? It doesn’t need to be a large venue or full orchestra, but rather anything that would give him a good sense or feel of what experts sound like.

There’s live jazz on Sunday afternoons at Johnny’s at the Wyndham in Middletown… they don’t always have a sax player but they post the schedule of who’s playing and what instruments they play on their Facebook page.

(If Dennis Cook is mentioned, you can’t go wrong. Super nice guy and an incredible sax player).

Hey! I am not exactly sure if there is a sax player, but there is a student at the yoga studio I work for who plays in a group. I am pretty sure it’s The Joe Parillo Trio. Joe plays the piano. Can confirm the sax player later this week if you have interest.

If you want to see a killer sax player, check out Marcus Monteiro. He’s in southeastern MA but he’s the best around for years now. You’ll probably be able to find an opportunity to see him play. Jazz.

Check out Extraordinary Rendition Band (ERB) or Undertow(formally What Cheer!Brigade) and see where they’re playing. Both have Sax players I believe and usually can be found playing alley shows around pvd. :)

Not concert or venue but show him the artist Griz. And when griz comes to play here locally take your son ☺️ big gigantic is also funky fun!

Not sure if they still do it, but Chan’s restaurant in Woonsocket used to have live Jazz on weekends. Think you might need a reservation though.. maybe someone could confirm this.

Courtland Club has live jazz, I'm unsure if they have age restrictions. Pump House Music in South Kingstown is also great? Just check their calendar to see what bands are playing. They serve free pizza at most shows, which is nice.
