Hey everyone! Woke up to it being December, and remembered that I’m turning 30 in just a few more days. To celebrate, my wife and I are looking to splurge on a dinner that’s a little fancier than our usual Chipotle.

We’re relatively new to RI, and we’re in East Providence. This is a good chance to try something new! I’m looking for a restaurant that hits it on all 3 courses: apps, entrees, and dessert. I’m thinking surf and turf for the main course, but I’m open to anything really! We’re willing to make a trip out of it since my actual birthday is on a weekend.

Any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Wow, thanks everyone for all the advice so far! I really appreciate the guidance. I’ll give another update once we decide!

If you want an eclectic experience: CAV

If you want a decadent experience and cost is no concern: Gracie’s; if cost is a concern: Siena

If you want a bar/pub food experience: The District

If you want an old world experience: Camille’s

If you want a REALLY old world New England experience: The White Horse Tavern

There are a hundred other great spots to go to ranging in price and cuisine and such. But those are a good range above to start with.

The District is great. Good food, very chill with friendly wait staff. All-around good vibes.

Happy early birthday! I’d do a day trip to Newport and see one of the decorated mansions and hit up 22 Bowen’s. Or check this sub for other Newport restaurant recommendations! I do recommend making a reservation wherever you decide.

Newport is a good suggestion especially in non-tourist season but remember it gets damn cold down by the water.

Gotta bundle up! I went to Bowen’s a few valentines days ago and it wasn’t too bad.

If you’re looking to really splurge, Camille’s on the Hill in Providence is the place. The food and service are second to none. It’s my go-to for special occasions.

Matunuck Oyster Bar has what you need.

Mill's Tavern, CAV, Al Forno will all have the delicious and special food you are looking for with exceptional service.

Persimmon has wonderful food, but the menu isn't set up for a "Course 1, Course 2" type dinner. It's more small plates and you order 6 or 7 between 2 people.

Can’t recommend Los Andes enough, incredible seafood and great appetizers

Great recommendations on here. I've heard Oberlin was insane. If you feel like taking a ride down to Newport, it's really cute down here for Christmas and there's so many great restaurants. Perro Salado, Yagi Noodles, Bar'Cino, Giusto, Cabana, and Thames Street Kitchen. The White Horse Tavern was a cool experience since it's the oldest tavern in the country. I also love Bar and Board for charcuterie and wine.

Los Andes is a good choice because it’s very unique, hard to find a similar restaurant. Or a place on federal hill-camilles or pan e vino, and Saturday night they have a holiday walk with lights and sights.

Rumford,RI close to your locale is a little place called Avenue N. Delicious food, small menu and in a cool historic building. Check them out.

Looks like they have a place on Hope Street in Providence, too.

I haven’t been to their Rumford location but the one in providence is really good. Sure you can’t go wrong with either one

Hands down the best. Sure, a dinner for two can be $250+ but my experience worth WAY more than their price. Love it there. Could do without the main street EG parking though

If you really want a good steak for your birthday, I recommend Capital Grille. Put in the comments during reservation that you're celebrating your 30th and they will even have a personal note for you. Their apps, entrée and desserts are great. Personally, for dessert I love their flourless chocolate cake but it is also awesome at Pastiche.

A good experience is also Mystic/Mystic Village if you’re looking to make a fun overnight trip out of it. The village is decorated for Christmas and there are plenty of food options down by the drawbridge (Engine Room!).

I’ll add a new restaurant that I’ve been to in Prov and in Miami that may fit your Surf and Turf needs. Ceviches by Divino. In Miami I went there looking for a Poke Bowl but the wonderful smell of the steak Lomo Saltado was too great and I had both. I’ve had the same here in Prov at the Point Street Bridge location and it’s perfect. https://cevichesbydivino.com/rhode-island/.

Odinis in E Prov -- Portuguese; from the outside unprepossessing but the food is fantastic! Seriously: if not for your birthday (second the CAV rec btw) some day soon.

And since you're new to the area, don't miss The Foundry Artists Show in Pawtucket this weekend and next (google directions & hours / days) -- free admission, easy parking, cool venue (historic Armory) for a strictly juried high-end art and fine crafts annual event with everything from $8 mouthblown candy canes to $$$ unique gifts.

It's a RI annual tradition 👍
