I'm a native Rhode Islander living in North Carolina for the last 17 years. I crave a lot of RI foods, especially "stuffies" around Christmastime. A quick Google search pulled up an overwhelming list of retailers. Can anyone recommend a reputable retailer that can ship me some glorious stuffies? Thank you!

Matlaw's makes it pretty good Rhode Island style stuffie, they are a fairly large commercial producer so you can probably get them shipped frozen from whatever service seems reasonable in your area. We'll keep RI demoralizingly windy and overpriced till you get back!

I am able to get Matlaw's here in Florida however they are nothing like what I used to get in RI. They call them stuffed clams or stuffed scallops in small shells. They don't look or taste like what I miss back home. :(

Either that or my food taste and senses are not the same as they were before I moved here 15 years ago.

Nah, your memory is good. They do make the big ones but I think they use the same formulation in the stuffing, no chorizo like you'd find in most of the restaurant made ones here.

Thelobsterguy.com They're out of Narragansett, and I ship to family around the country every year. Always excellent! They have stuffies, and everything else you could want for a RI feast!!

They are so easy to make though. I like to put chaurico in mine. Portuguese sausages might be tough to find but chorizo might be a tasty substitute. So much better than the premade ones

The store bought ones are mostly bread. I learned the Portuguese sausage trick from a tavern down in Newport. I can't even eat them without sausage now. Steam the clams. Cook the sausage, sweat some minced onions, red pepper and celery if you like. Split the clam shells and chop up the clams. Mix it all together with some fresh chopped parsley, paprika and bread crumbs. Add either the steaming water or clam juice to wet the ingredients. Stuff the shells and bake in the oven until brown. You can toast them under the broiler for a bit if you are feeling fancy. I think the difference between chorizo and chaurico, is that chaurico is smoked.
