Not all hotel pools are created equal, so I’m turning to Reddit for ideas.

I’m looking for recommendations on nearby (within 2 hours) hotels with a good pool for kids (ages 3 and 5). Would be going in early January for my daughter’s birthday.

Unfortunately, Great Wolf Lodge is out. My daughter is battling leukemia so there’s too much risk with GWL and similar facilities where there’s guaranteed to a bunch of kids/people packed in.

When I was younger, we would get a room at the seacrest in Falmouth during winter. The indoor pool is big and there’s an arcade next to it too. It’s on the water, so you can take a walk on the beach. Falmouth is also filled with lots of great restaurants and it’s dead in the off-season, so not a lot of people to worry about.

Booked the Seacrest. Looks like a great place. We spent a week in Falmouth in February this year and had a blast. Granted, we stayed at Tommy’s Place which is like Disney World to a kid and only available to families like ours, i.e. have a child with a cancer.

Awww that’s fantastic! I wish her the best of luck and a fantastic birthday. You’ll love it. I highly recommend checking out The Knob if you haven’t been before. It’s a short little hike to one of the most beautiful places in Falmouth. There’s also an aquarium in Woods Hole and a little cafe also in Woods Hole called Pie in the Sky. Lastly, there’s an ice cream/candy shop called Ben and Bills in Falmouth center that I highly recommend!

Seacrest IS lovely. I’ve stayed there in February, as well, with my 5 yo at the time.

A lot to do locally if you feel like it - do I remember a small aquarium nearby, too? - or simply enjoy the beach and pool.

yeah we live like 20mins away. in the middle of the winter...sometimes we'll get a room and the kids will swim like little maniacs as long as they can.

Not the most exciting location but for little kids they will think the pool at the John Carver Inn in Plymouth is awesome.

Yes! Saw that place, and it’s on the list for the future. According to their website to go on the slides the kids need to know how to swim and no life jackets. Currently, neither kid can swim, so I’m not even going to tempt them.

Ah, that's fair. Well maybe it will help encourage them when they start learning!

When my kids were younger I would take them to all seasons in cape cod for an overnight trip on the cheap. They have a lovely pool, and a cracker-barrel on site. Swimming in winter is fun.

Newport Island Harbor Resort (aka the old Gurneys) in Newport is a great winter getaway. Nice little pool. Plus outdoor ice skating.

That’s very kind, thank you. Cancer is a humbling experience.

I’m sorry your daughter is sick! Sending healing vibes to your family! Hope she has a wonderful birthday. Also eventide in Wellfleet has a big pool and in the off season it’s usually pretty empty! And their rooms are (relatively) cheap. It’s a hike but Wellfleet is lovely.

A little further, but we have taken our kids to the Hyatt Regency Greenwich a few times now for this exact reason. The pool/hot tub are pretty solid, but the atrium with all the plants and fountains is like a fun jungle getaway in the colder months. They absolutely loved it. Plus the food options in the surrounding area are top notch (Jewish bakeries, Italian deli's, etc.). Surprisingly, their rates are pretty affordable as long as there isn't an event being hosted.

I'm truly sorry to hear about her health battle. I hope you can find a good place to make some memories. Good luck!

Providence Omni has a nice pool, can walk to a bunch of places from there too (including Providence Place Mall and Amica Pavilion without having to step outside)

Newport Marriott is a good getaway, with a nice pool. Had my son's bday party there a couple of times and they were awesome about letting us order in pizzas, cake, and ice cream. And if you tell them your situation, I bet they'll take good care of you. Best wishes and Happy birthday to your daughter 😊

Thank you! I’ll add it to the list for future trips. It’s clearly been a while since I’ve been to North Conway. None of the water parks were there last time I went. Seems like there’s a couple up there now.

Does it HAVE to be a hotel?

Check McDermott pool in Warwick.

Ideally yes, we’d like to go away for a few days. When you don’t know if your kid will see their next birthday, you do whatever you can (generally within reason) to make memories.
