So, my wife is from Rhode Island, I grew up in Pennsylvania. She claims that she never saw a groundhog until she came to visit me in PA, where they’re all over the place. Wikipedia shows them living here but I have to admit I’ve never seen one here. Has anyone seen one in Rhode Island recently?

From the number of comments, it would appear that people are very eager to discuss their groundhogs.

Well, I’ll tell you one thing, I’m not eager to share my garden with it. I’ll likely need to plant extra just to distract him.

I think I remember a video from URI's Kingston campus maybe a year or two ago. That video might have been on this sub at one point, but I can't recall.

I live in Warwick. Never saw a groundhog. I guess it depends on where you live in RI.

Yep grew up in pawtucket. I never saw one before I went to URI and then not again until I worked at the zoo.

I know it’s not what you meant but I love the idea of a groundhog display at the zoo.

The town of Hopkinton used to have a 5 cent bounty if you brought in the nose of a groundhog. The ordinance might still be in on the books.

Live in Providence; see them far less often than rabbits, maybe as often as raccoons? -- but they've been here throughout my decades here.

Spotted a giant one popping out of his hole this past summer in India Point Park.

I used to have one under my firewood. Thing ate my garden and my neighbors. We took care of that. I generally see some every year looking to get the garden.

That's very concerning that the groundhog ate your neighbors.

They’d be hard to see them in PVD but are all over the state anywhere with woods. I have a family who resides without paying rent under my shed. The babies are adorable but they will feast on your garden.

We have quite a few - but we live in the woods. You don't see them as often if you live in a densely populated area.
