I wish I did and I wish my eyes hadn't changed, lol. But I both probably don't have any old rxs laying around and my eyes have 100% changed. I know eye exams are fairly cheap at a Walmart, but the only Walmarts with vision centers I see are either very far away in Mass or fairly close in Mass but with reviews sayin they are closed.

Edit: I also work night shift and live a nigh shift type schedule, so fuck me I guess.

I think Target in Lincoln and Seekonk does eye exams for under $100ish. They have the costs and ability to make appointments on their website. I suggest going to there or the places anyone else recommends for a cheap eye exam to get an updated prescription.
Ask them for a copy once you are done with appointment, then use eyebuydirect or zenni or firmoo to order a pair. My family has been doing this for ages. Last pair of glasses my partner got from Eyebuydirect cost $39 and were delivered to the house in about 1.5 to 2 weeks after placing order. Great quality too.

If you have a BJs membership, they also do exams there for relatively low cost. Worst case scenario, pay for only the eye exam at a Vision Center or one if the chains that take walk-ins, then buy glasses online. I highly recommend Zenni.

We've had a great experience with Zenni as well. I end up buying an extra pair plus custom readers when I order from them, to take advantage of the order shipping cost.

Not sure where in RI you are but the Walmart in North Attleboro has a vision center and I saw it was open yesterday when I was Christmas shopping. It's practically right over the line from Pawtucket.

I think the exams are on the cheaper end, the script and frames you can get for pretty cheap at Walmart or bjs

I had a good experience at Walmart when I had no vision coverage. The doctor was shockingly good. The frames were super cheap and some they offer definitely don't last...but on the flip side when I was traveling and they broke I was able to go into a random Walmart across the country and get the lenses popped into identical replacement frames.

The eye exam itself isn't too expensive IMO. Around $60 at VisionWorks and Walmart. Make sure they write your pupilary distance on the prescription. They try and weasel out of this so you have to ask for it. Take that to zenni.com and look at the clearance frames. They take about a week to get to you but are a lifesaver for low income ppl. You can even try on glasses at Walmart or wherever you go to get an idea of style before you order online.

I think Costco may do vision exams? Regardless, go somewhere cheap for the exam and then buy the glasses from Zenni or similar, NOT from a brick-and-mortar store.

Family Eye Care in Pawtucket has very reasonable prices. If you just need single vision lenses, you can get an eye exam and the frames & lenses for about $100 total. The doctor in charge over there is a great guy too.
burgritto_22 t1_j0x1se8 wrote
You definitely don't want to skimp on actual eye care, so definitely call around to different private practices that are well-regarded. You only get one pair of eyes and so many eye diseases can be virtually symptomless and require a caring and expert provider to diagnose and treat them! Oftentimes optometrist offices will have a "private pay" option for an eye exam that's usually around $100 or so. As long as your prescription isn't complicated, as a lot of folks have said, you can use your glasses prescription at whatever optical you so desire.
That being said, a community health center like Blackstone Valley Community Healthcare or Providence would be something to look into if cost is a concern.

If you still have your existing eye rx and you know for sure your eyes haven’t changed, you can give one of the online retailers like Zenni a try. I’ve gotten glasses for as little as $20 out of pocket, which I understand is still a bit much when you’re trying to make ends meet. But it’s better than the outrageous markup you’ll see in the eye doctor showrooms.
