Early 2000's Lungfish Panic

Hello Neighbors,

Does anyone else remember the early 2000's Lungfish Panic? I remember ProJo stories and local news segments describing a plague of "lungfish" creeping out of vernal pools, attacking pets, menacing small children etc. It went on for a while, so longer than an April Fools' gag. Please tell me I'm not alone in this??

There's no active population of lungfish in North America, AFAIK. You are probably thinking of snakeheads, which can survive stints out of water, but aren't very capable/ambulatory on land. They're scary looking, and were gaining traction in the news as an invasive species in parts of the US back then (I don't think they had been found in RI at that point, however).
