Yeah an assistant principal is living in an ivory tower and the term coyote is just common knowledge. /s because you’re a dunce.

coyote is a pretty well known term at this point. making fun of someone else for knowing it while you're sitting there ignorant is a dumb look

I was well aware of what coyote means, but am also empathetic enough to know that maybe not everyone else does. Guess you don’t have that problem. Pretty dumb look if you ask me.

The best case scenario is there is no coyote and this is just an effort to cover a gambling debt or something. Yikes.

I highly doubt that. My guess is that the kid's family owes some bad hombres money down there, and something was lost in translation to this naive administrator. I would believe the kid. Plenty of times the people you owe money to have ways of getting to your loved ones back home.

The assistant principal seems to be some sort of 'activist' so its not likely it was being naive, and more likely horrible judgement sending that email. turtleboy has a little more on the assistant principle - https://tbdailynews.com/providence-assistant-principal-sends-email-to-teachers-soliciting-money-to-drug-cartel-coyotes-for-helping-student-cross-border-illegally/

Maybe “my coyote ate my homework” was lost in translation 🤪

It’s illegal on both counts. The coyote and the person sneaking into the country to become an illegal citizen but this is acceptable now? Either way this is a terrible situation, but they’re paying off a smuggler so the smuggler will do it again. I know they’re trying to do something good but it’s perpetuating a cycle instead of breaking it.

Yep, the correct course of action here is contacting law enforcement.

WTF seriously, this is just as dumb as the court judge in MA that physically helped a guy avoid ICE in her courtroom
This is a criminal act aiding in illegal immigration and shes an assistant principal. Can she get fired for such nonsense

Billions for defence, but America will not pay one cent of ransom. If you start paying Danegeld or protection money, it never stops.

It seems she was trying to be compassionate which, of course, meant a whole bunch of people who don't live there got upset. She should have contacted the authorities and the people who are most upset should have done the same.

>"We have a student who came to America with 'Coyote,' which is a group that helps people," read the email from Assistant Principal Stefani Harvey. "This group gives you a time frame to make a payment of $5,000 to those, who bring them to the states."
>The Department of Justice defines coyotes as "human smugglers."
The fucking disconnect and blissful ignorance these staff must live in behind their ivory towers. Coyotes are not good people. They are human traffickers, and harm people, not help them, often holding other family members hostage until payment is made.
