So im having trouble renewing my registration. When i do it online It says "Registration cannot be renewed: Blocks other than Municipal/City Property Tax Block." Does anyone know what this could possibly mean? I called town hall and they said i don't owe any taxes so they sent a release form to the dmv and it still won't go through.

You might have to just call the DMV. I'd maybe try just sending the info via the contact us form on the website so see if they can answer before sitting on hold though.

Note that the message said "...blocks other than Municipal/City Property Tax Block." So, it seems like it is a block not from your town and you definitely need to ask the DMV for more details as to who put the block on your renewal.

That's what I figured, probably have to just go to the dmv.

Odds are you might owe some state taxes or you didn't file your past taxes.

Since you called, go down there with the letter. You also may be able to check online with this with your Town's Web page. I literally just had this happen. I owed 3 cents and I had a Tax block on my car. Town Hall removed the block for me but was a pain in the ass. Seems like they are sending a lot of these letters out.

It says "Blocks other than", so why would they go to their town? It literally says that that is not the problem.

Because its an excise tax letter which is why the registration is blocked. The excise tax is being phased out and anyone that even owns a minor amount of $$ gets these. Mine said exactly the same thing. When I called the town hall an automated message said "Due to the volume of calls regarding recent mailings about registration blocks there may be a long wait"

I sent an email to the city because I had this message. They said it was an error and removed

Is your inspection sticker out of date? I think anything over about two months out of date and they stop your renewal.

  1. Check the DMV website: walk-ins welcome?

  2. Walk into the town hall & Get proof you owe no taxes.

  3. Walk the proof over to the DMV.
