Steven Seagal was generated by really bad AI back in the nineties. He actually never existed.

I've heard this a lot in the context of news, but I don't know if I believe it.
You could say the same thing about words. Anybody can say anything online, but that doesn't mean you necessarily believe them. You cross-check their words with trusted sources and weigh what they say against what you believe to be rational and reasonable. I think people will just learn to do the same thing with photos and videos.
Plus there will likely be enough law suits around this to establish some kind of norm.

Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"

I think humans will always develop ways to distinguish what's authentic from what isn't. Sure maybe more people will be fooled at first glance, but I think there will always be the option to go and fact check it from reliable sources.

You're really underestimating how stupid my generation is and how that will in turn cause our future kids to also be stupid.
