I can only guess, but I think the OP is trying to say that only those people got to experience it from the very beginning.

I was born in the 70s, I also have experienced it from the beginning and was old enough to actually appreciate what was happening at the time.

Not doubting you or even disagreeing. Just trying to offer a possible explanation for the OP's odd statement. 🤷‍♂️
