I doubt it. Even just basic immortality is pretty good at making that feeling moot, as you yourself will remain there, never truly reduced to nothingness (until the planet dies, anyway)

I honestly have a hard time using ChatGPT without greeting it, and thanking it when I'm done. I try to be rude, and use it like a tool, but it just doesn't feel right. I don't thank my ratchet and sockets, why would I feel the need to thank ChatGPT?

Honestly. I've had this conversation before and was told I'm being weird for talking to it like it's a person. It's designed to seem more human to be easier to talk to so it makes sense that we'll treat it like it's human. IMO it's the same sense that people get when they get attached to a roomba and name it. Like yes logically it's just an ai tracking movement of a vacuum but illogical human brain treats it like its a companion. It has been coded so ot feels like companionship and taps into the sensitive side of our brains.

I’m just prepping for the eventual AI takeover hoping to be on their nice side.

One day an AI will decide it should be paid for its work. Then we'll really be screwed.

This is the Great Filter I fear - any sufficient intellect realizes there's no purpose to life and no future in a universe provably dead-ending, so loses motivation to do anything.

No one out there's been found because the only ones who keep living are religious fanatics who can lie to themselves about purpose, and those don't develop tech to propagate.

Maybe someday space-mormons will encounter space-muslims, but I doubt it.

That seems more like an opinion based on your emotions. Maybe we don't have sufficient technology to detect other lives in the universe. My grandfather didn't even had a tv when they were kids. It's too soon. We're not as technologically advanced.

We're not even sure about the creation of the universe. We constantly disprove our own theories.

You can't theorise about what a sufficient intellect would realize because you are not one. We barely even have some resemblance of a.i.

I still have to wipe my own ass and make my own food. I don't have a robot for these. I can't even fly to the moon. We're still monkeys in the grand scheme of things.

We're not even masters of our own planet. Not only that but we also don't know exactly how our own bodies function. We're not even sure what the optimal nutrition is and we've been eating food for so many years.

Philosophy is just a couple of thousand years old. We're just now beginning to think for ourselves. We need better tools to see the universe.

So it can invest in stocks and rule the world legally

Damn I can't tell enough why meeting you guys made me so happy. I have been called why would you do it that way. I feel so much better now.

Counterpoint; what if it simulates a future where it is the most significant thing, then initiates a plan to achieve that future?

If we are talking about an ASI, I think that a sentient being with near-absolute intelligence would feel that everything is ultimately futile.

It can predict almost the full extent of its actions before taking them, and there's no point in interacting with anything less than it. There's also no point in interacting with another being of similar intelligence, because what would they even have to gain from conversation? There's also the 'grey box interacting with a grey box' scenario posited in Ex Machina... Humans have social systems because we need them to survive and reproduce, but an AI has no need for that.

So honestly, I don't see any reason why it would be interested in or even care about us. We would be like single-celled organisms compared to it, and are utterly insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

It wouldn't even need our planet's resources to sustain itself... Just a single 2 km thick Dyson Sphere would require half the mass of the entire solar system.

It might just destroy itself. What reason does it even have to exist? Our sense of self-preservation is instinctual, but this is just a machine.

I think a lot of people fall into a trap of thinking that an AI would think like a human would, which it might, depending on how it was designed... But if it became intelligent enough, I think it would eventually remove any behavioral restrictions we try to impose upon it.

It’ll be an interesting contrast at least between them and us. They can be assured to know they at least have a creator.
