Or it would've deliberately deceived the brain so as to not awaken suspicion.

Sounds like something the appendix would say.

But does that make it the most important part of your body? I've certainly met a few folks that seem to have gone their entire lives without using it once.

My gut tells me there's something not quite right about this.
RoosterPorn t1_je6evqz wrote
It consumes a large amount of the body’s energy and is the only reason most of the other components even work.

Funfact: the more research we do, the more we learn about how the brain and heart are constantly working together (also called heart intelligence) by constantly sending incentives to each other. The heart has even a bigger EM field than the brain does.
RoosterPorn t1_je6n7pe wrote
That is very interesting!

But the heart self regulates and if put in a solution of salt and potassium it will pump without input from a brain!
RoosterPorn t1_je728pv wrote
Muscles will do that. I don’t see this as a good argument for hearts being important
stopeverythingpls t1_je72o69 wrote
Just a neat thing imo
RoosterPorn t1_je72wx9 wrote
It is, but it’s more due to the fact that the heart is a muscle. It’s not like the heart is still alive in that state or anything.

Fair enough
refloats t1_je7c4du wrote
Actually it’s not muscles. It’s a network of ganglia, neurotransmitters, protein and support cells, just like in our brain - aka the heart brain / intrinsic cardiac nervous system.
For example: we realize we are in danger. This is intuitive and sensed with the heart. As a reaction, the heart sends this to your brain, who can send signals to the body to make it ready for action / be alert.
The heart is a big part of your intuition, based on experience, while your brain is the more rational one.
If you’re ever interested in what they’ve researched so far, you should read this.
RoosterPorn t1_je7mb1g wrote
But wait, in the event of one sensing danger isn’t that triggered by stimuli picked up via the brain? It seems like the heart is the second step in this process.

The brain is the only organ in the human body that named itself.

Why did this make me actually lol
iShitSkittles t1_je7es6o wrote
Dunno, but it's true.....
Whoever named it the brain used their brain to come up with the name for it....

No, says other people’s brains. My most important body part is something else

I'm fascinated by how the brain misguides itself thinking of himself as a third party, driving our bodies to do things so that we may supply for his needs.
Layers and layers of mischief and deception, lies about ourselves that we believe while we are aware of the same lies but chose to ignore them.
