It's just like getting angry when trying to get a point across. You could be right as rain, but nobody is hearing what your saying, only how you're saying it.

Extremism has helped a lot of causes succeed too. I would call any Revolutionary an Extremist since they literally go to war to achieve their goal.

Sometimes revolution is more self defence than anything else. I'd say self defence isn't extremism.

It's a matter of perspective. An extremist is generally someone diverging from the mainstream of society.
If you are the British empire anyone wanting to split from you is an extremist. You yourself might not label yourself that, but they certainly wouldn't and have.
