200 years ago the french were chopping dudes heads off and the american founding fathers went on record for saying sometimes to stay free you need to stab a bitch. maybe we're just not extreme enough nowadays.

Extremism has helped a lot of causes succeed too. I would call any Revolutionary an Extremist since they literally go to war to achieve their goal.

It's a matter of perspective. An extremist is generally someone diverging from the mainstream of society.

If you are the British empire anyone wanting to split from you is an extremist. You yourself might not label yourself that, but they certainly wouldn't and have.
