I had a mentor once who told me that you ALWAYS have a choice to do something, even if a gun is to your head, so before you do something big, you have to consider the consequences. And then, whatever you choose, you have deliberately decided to accept those consequences. Sure you fight them if you can (don't plead guilty if it was self-defense) but you can't act shocked (when you get arrested and have to plead self defense). I think people forget their own agency sometimes. We are autonomous beings and we have free will.
