This is why "vote with your dollar!" is fucking stupid.

Especially in this era where like 15 companies own everything and all the competing brands, whether they be "alternative" or "ethical" end up in the pockets of the same corporations.

It's not stupid, it's just difficult (especially for the reasons you mentioned)

For a multi billion dollar corporation it takes some major effort to start cutting into their pockets, but it can be done. It happens to games and animation all the time: too little engagement means no payoff. If they can't turn things around the show gets cancelled or the game shuts down services and stops printing physical copies.
