Exactly. In a way it’s gatekeeping. Besides religion, what other are non scientific/history based subjects are commonly taught? You may be able to argue it’s history, or implemented because of most common practices but I don’t really buy it.

Grammar is really weird, a lot of things about grammar are right or wrong just based on how it sounds.

An example would be brown big cat, you can’t really explain how it’s wrong but it just sounds wrong and you’d offer the correct sounding one: big brown cat.
