I'd be willing to bet he's had his hand on the stick once or twice. Flying ain't hard. Landing is a bit tricky.

I was fortunate enough to work at General Dynamics in my late teens and 20's. Scrounged some parts for the department that built the simulators. One fine weekend the supervisor of the department had some down time and I got to fly one for a few hours. Managed to get up and off the ground, fly around, even did some simulated fighting and got a few 'kills', but LANDING? hahahahaa.. nope.

He's definitely flown before, but not in the movie.

The pilots were explicitly told not to let him touch any of the controls or instrumentation.
