Uh, what? A single day is 24 hours long, a half a day is 12 hours. Am I just incredibly dumb?

It takes 24 hours for midnight to pass around the globe from one side of the date line to the other then 24 hours until that point reaches midnight again.

Since you exist at only one point on the planet that is sort of irrelevant. A day is the passage of 24 hours from your local perspective.

And the fact that it passed the "date line" twice indicates two days, genius.

This is a friendly reminder to read our rules.

Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"

(For an explanation of what a "showerthought" is, please read this page.)

Well if ya only have 12 hours of daylight in 24 hours of “day” then yeah it takes 48 hours for 1 full “day”

Actually if you go by that logic, then the full 24 hr mark of daylight would end at the 36 hr mark, if day and night time were evenly split, which they're not.
