It will never run out, but all matter can theoretically be in use at the same time. Recycling matter is always possible.

You might run out if you were trying to make a bigger universe.

Well, how? If it can't be destroyed how can you run out of it? I don't get it

All matter is always in use. Just not by you,me,or other things on earth.

But maybe more precise would be to say that in THEORY. Nearly all matter can be used by current "living" entities. And that creating a new entity would require an amount of energy that is not freely available without first destroying another living entity.

Idk. Seems pretty silly and arbitrary to define all matter in the universe this way.

well, considering the universe is expanding, you could just not have any within a useable distance from your location.

Due to the way the universe expands, in trillions of years the only visible things left in the universe will be the Milky Way itself (or I guess what remains after the Milky Way and andromeda combine) and due to the speed of the expansion of the universe even if you travelled at the speed of light you would never encounter other universes again. So in that sense, you could run out of all matter.

But the universe is so unbelievably huge that the concept of “running out of matter” is almost comical

Only if some is past it’s expiration date before your next trip to the store.

If by "run out of it" you are implying that there is finite matter in the universe, then yes. For practical purposes, no.

Personal perspectives, crazy ideas, questions (rhetorical or otherwise) and meta submissions are not showerthoughts.
