Actually saw one in Virginia. Looked like a plane crashed.

Clothes, food, wood paneling, twisted aluminum sheets, pillows, toys, pots and pans all over the highway.

Thank god it was a 5th wheeler and no-one was in the trailer.

This was 10 years ago near a NASCAR event...so it kinda speaks for itself.

Insurance premiums are the proof. My 27’ RV added only $36.00 per month to my contract. We drive them pretty slowly and cautiously and other drivers don’t want to fuck around and get flattened.

Maybe I’m the anomaly but I can remember three. First one was some hippies that installed a wood stove in their van and it (shockingly) burned down right in the middle of the intersection in Prescott. Second one was on fire when I got there. Not sure what happened, didn’t stick around. Last one I was behind a dodge Durango towing a double axel south out of Flagstaff. Not sure why they lost control but one swerve, then two, then the whole shebang went cruisn off the side of the interstate at about 80. Looked like some Michael Bay shit. The truck spun backwards, jackknifed, then the trailer caught rolled, and tore off the hitch. The whole thing ripped open and a billion little parts went everywhere. 4 people in the Durango were 100% unhurt. No clue how. I can still smell the propane. In retrospect, it was pretty cool.

One would hope so. My FIL will prove you wrong. He lost everything as my in laws were living in a camping trailer, and he wrecked losing all of it. Thankfully MIL wasn’t with him when it happened. A few years later, he tore up another trailer. He just bought one. I’ll see how long that one last.

You don’t travel the Midwest much do you? They get blown over in wind gusts, flat tire and ditched, burned and my personal favorite the Henderson special. Pickup with a 5th wheel. Pulling a UTV trailer pulling a bass boat and UTV trailer lost a wheel several miles back.

Happens all the time in Alaska. Live in a tourist driven area and all the idiots in cars are now idiots in huge fucking rvs. It's terrifying.

Some people just aren't cut out to tow big trailers.

I know a guy who has lost two boats off trailers on motorways this year. One written off one went to manufacturer for ££££ repair. Thankfully neither belonged to our club but we banned him from towing our trailer after that.

That because they make up such a small percentage of vehicles on the road. You will see several thousand cars and trucks for every RV, so the nominal amount of accidents will of course be fewer.

I’ve seen a good amount broke down. Especially the old ones with low mileage that were never maintained. I’ve seen a few that caught fire, probably from fuel lines that needed to be replaced. But it only had 40,000 miles on it….

One of my earliest memories is driving back from Magic Mountain in the 1970s with all my brothers and sisters. An RV ahead of us went off the road and hit a telephone pole. It was like 10pm aid there were sparks flying all over the place, it was nuts.

Saw one in Washington a few years ago, on a somewhat isolated single lane stretch of road. Traffic stand still for probably 2 hours (everyone just walking around the road couldnt go anywhere). We were so far back we didn't know what the hold up was. But when we got going we drove by the accident of an rv that crashed and it was a mess. Like an explosion of stuff everywhere. It looked like a garbage dump. Hope the people were OK.

I wouldnt really want to be in one in an accident. Passenger vehicles have so much thought put into them for crashes, side air bags, etc. Rvs are basically made of pop cans and OSB. I would assume the main chassis and front seating area would have some standards as they're 'borrowed' from vans/trucks.

There’s far more cars/trucks than RVS so it would make sense, statistically, to see more cars and trucks be in accidents than RVS

False: I did see one drive into a lake shortly after he purchased it. Should have read the manual that it was not a boat.

Not exactly an accident, but my grandparents had an RV that burned until it was just a few pieces of the frame.

My little cousin was a baby and he had been taking a nap in there, until my aunt had a bad feeling and decided to take him out and put him in the car (she had it running with the AC on, don't worry). The fire started soon after.
