Insanely high effort answer. What a hero.
Wow!! Thank you for all of these recommendations!!
If you’re considering the pizza option, do Colony. It’s the OG and the vibe is miles ahead of Riko’s. Sit in a booth or at the bar.
And for garden catering/reddi rooster, you have to get one of the ‘special’ bags of nuggets and fries. You can get cones mixed in.
Colony is a Fairfield spot…. Remo’s is Stamford… they just opened a Sally’s if you want New Haven
Colony is NOT a Fairfield spot. The original Colony has been going strong since 1935 on Myrtle Ave.
Wow….TIL thank you!!!
If you want to immerse yourself from a local's perspective this podcast at 24:30 talks about the concept of a "perfect day in Stamford."
As a note, if you go to Third Place, last I knew, the 121 Towne building has a daytime public section of it's garage on the Towne street entry level, as well as some street parking. So you can probably park there for Third Place. You can see Third Place from the garage entrance. (Although if you make a day of being in Stamford and have other things to do, you may want to park at one of the other places mentioned to keep your car more central and walk most places).
I am literally saving this reply to send my friends/family when they ask what to do when visiting me. thank you for your service. 🫶🏻
Hey, thanks! I've messaged the mods to pin these kinds of posts to help people out but they never respond.
This is the perfect slice of Stamford! So many things I love made the cut :-)
I think it depends what version of stamford you want. Assuming youre young people you probably want to check out harbor point and bedford street. Take the trolley around. (Its a free bus)
If you have a car id suggest spending an hour or two driving around, and maybe go for a hike. go to one of the beaches / waterfront parks. You can actually walk to one from harbor point.
Please check out our dying mall!
There isnt a TON to do in stamford. But its a nice place to live.
Thanks! Yes, we are in our twenties so we're definitely looking to live somewhere that has a bit of a youthful feel (whether that ends up being Stamford or elsewhere).
Thanks for the suggestions!!
Why are you looking at stamford? Commute / jobs? Something else?
Combination of a couple of reasons - my partner has more job opportunities in his field there + we're currently living in NYC and Stamford is seeming to be cheaper + it's still not a terrible commute for me to NYC.
So yeah, youd probably want to be in walking distance of the train, which means either harbor point or north up to like bedford street.
Thats your sweet spot for exploring.
My wife and i did the same thing pre covid, did lunch in harbor point and dinner at brickhouse. It was a fun couple days.
They have these weird electronic dart boards at a lot of bars
I commute to NYC everyday (😅🤡) and live in Harbor Point. Lmk if you have any specific questions! I love it here
How do you find the commute? Where in the city do you commute to and how long does it normally take?
My fiancé drops me off at the train (2 min drive, but if not it’s a ~10 min walk) and then a ~55 min train ride and my office is right by GCT so it’s just steps until I’m in the lobby. 3-4 days a week would be ideal, but 5 feels taxing IMO. Luckily I roll out of the office around 4 everyday and finish on the ride home but at the end of the day, it is 2 hours a day spent commuting, so I try to use the time to do errands or wedding plan so I can just chill when I get home. Still wouldn’t move back to NYC over it!
I also commute to FiDi and I think the other user's schedule is very optimistic. It takes me about 1h45m. 10m to the train station by bus from Waterside, 1h train ride (people will reference the 50 minute train which is the shortest one but in the morning the trains are 55-65m), 15m subway to Fulton St., 5-10 walk to the office. And keep in mind you'll need a few minutes buffer/waiting in between every part of the trip. It takes a good 5 minutes just to get from the Metro North track to the subway track at Grand Central.
My SO walks from harbor point to the train (10 minutes), train is about 50 minutes, and then takes the subway down to fidi (10 minutes), then walks a bit to his office. Door to door, takes him about 1.5 hours max, but usually closer to 1.25.
I love hitting Mianus River Park…it’s a beautiful park.
Mianus 🤣🤣 never gets old. What you do with Uranus is your business.
Smiling because this was me and my fiancé a year ago! We “escaped” to Stamford for a weekend from NYC. We now live in harbor point.
Agree with comments here that there’s really not many “things to do”. We came up Saturday, checked into our hotel, then went to Third Place. Would recommend! Great atmosphere, good beer and there’s usually a food truck or two. We walked down to the water (which is chilly this time of year), and grabbed another drink at a bar down by harbor point so we could take a look at some of the buildings.
For dinner, if you want to do something nicer, cafe silvium is great, but you’ll need to wait a while for a table. We “settled” for capital grille when they offered to make a table for us and had an excellent meal. Otherwise, you could just hit Bedford street and walk around exploring bars/food to see what you like! We usually do this when we have friends/family in town.
I will say, when it’s warmer, there’s much more to do. There’s activities downtown, and some restaurants will open outdoor areas to hang out at. The beer garden at shippan, for example, or The Wheel. Both on the water and a great place to day drink, eat and bring pets.
After living here about a year, I will say I recommend it! Many of the buildings are nice and nothing is ever too far away. Easy access to the city is a plus too via metro north.

Go to Manhattan, spend the day there, have a great dinner. Ride the train home and realize living in a place like Stamford is worth it to get proximity to one of the greatest cities on earth.
Katrina Mygatt is our world class dump. Certainly worth a look
I stayed in stamford for a week and decided to move here from Texas. Why did I leave Texas to move here? Well it was either communist nyc or stamford. It's pretty okay
Communist NYC might be the dumbest thing I’ve read in years. What exactly do you find communist about the largest financial center in the world?
Lol yea more like largest crime infested dumbass laws center in the world
Are you a teenager? Or just that ignorant?
That aside you didn’t answer my question - what is communist about New York?
Don't feed the troll
Fair enough
To be fair I wouldn't leave Texas for Stamford either
I moved from Texas to NYC for couple of years and then Stamford for a couple of years. Stamford is pretty okay, but after a few years, I was ready to move back to Texas and I’m so glad I did.
Lucky you ny wife is against Texas and all for nyc burlt stamford is a compromise. I really do miss living there in tx but I guess another life.

Stamford is a nice place to live but not necessarily a touristy town. Not sure if there's something that can distill it's appeal in two days. You could:
I don't think any of these items will blow you away, but it's a decent place to live. If you want the real Stamford experience you can get a hotel here, then travel into New York City every day. Then after spending a little bit of time in Stamford you can leave.
