FYI…Eversource electricity rates doubled at the first of the year. I missed the email they sent but was on a call with them regarding another issue and the customer service agent mentioned it. She also let me know that you can go to energizect.com and change to a different supplier with better rates. Eversource will still be the billing company but there are a few different supplier options. I was able to get a much lower rate for 22 billing cycles which will save me approximately & $75/ month. You can switch suppliers right on the website and it was quick and easy. Cheers!!

When did that happen exactly? My bills have actually been lower than typical for the past several months.

The rate went from $.12 to $.24 on January 1st. Here is what they stated in their January update email…

“As previously communicated, beginning Jan. 1, the Eversource Standard Service supply rate increased. Record high natural gas prices are having the biggest impact on bills, especially here in New England where natural gas is used to generate much of the region’s electricity. A customer using 700 kWh per month will see about a 48% or $84.85 increase to your total bill compared to December's bill. Your total bill impact depends on energy used, your rate, and weather conditions. We know any increase to your bill is challenging and we’re here to help.”

My bill doubled this month. I think I’ll try calling like you did. It actually worked?? What did you tell them and how do I do this on the website?

I was calling about a gas meter replacement not to complain about my bill. They said that they send an email regarding the rate hike so I wouldn’t bother calling just go to www.energizect.com and click on the compare rates tab. You can then review all of the rates and switch providers. The least expensive is Town Square Energy for $.148 which is just about $.10 less expensive than Eversource.

Calling them about switching today, did you have to do anything besides sign up?

No, it’s very easy. CT signed a law to make it incredibly easy to switch providers whenever you want. It only takes a phone call, they advertise the rates as 12 months or 24 months or whatever, but you can switch without penalty whenever you find a better rate.

Does switching suppliers impact the power you receive to your house in anyway?
